hass spindle

we had a bearing go in our Hass vf3,we have the spindle out but cant find a way to get the belt drive gear off so we can get at the bearings has anyone done this and can you give me some advice.Thanks

I could be wrong on this but aren't Haas spindles cartridges now like so many others....you just replace the entire unit?

 I was thinking the same thing. Send the cartridge to a spindle repair shop and order a new one. Now you have a back for the next time it happens. Yes it will happen again.

not sure we,ve never done this before company doesn't want to spend money on hass techs so our guys are giving it a shot

Honestly there is more do it then just bearings. The bearing are expensive to purchase.

For our Daewoo VMC we sent the cartridge to SKF in the USA and they do a full analysis of the repair. In the end you get a a detailed report of what was wrong or needed repaired. They balance it with the pulley attached and adjust the belleville washers on the draw-bar.

thanks guys I passed the cartridge  thing on to our guys and they,re getting a new one

Buying a new one outright, is over double the price of exchange service through Haas. i need to have a rebuild on mine soon :-(

AFAIK, it's the original 2002 unit. Been good for 6 years of my light duty/ prototype work.

Sometimes they spec a proprietary bearing, my old shop had some excel throw aways and they had a 6 week lead time to get the bearings

 You have to also reset the "Z" home and the tool change position. Remember the M19 has to line up to the tool changer!

Its not automatic when you change out the spindle.
