Model based definition

Just as a matter of interest:

In the Aerospace world MBD simply means what data source has the authority. If MBD then the model has the authority if there is a discrepancy between it and any print.

CATIA (Boeing standard) normally has the solid dimensions on a separate level which we might or might not see, but our engineers will normally make what we call an IP (Inspection Print) which gives the dimensions extracted from the CATIA source file.

We also have to be approved by Boeing to use MBD.

I got a shop I was working in DPD/MBD approved back in 07 directly to Boeing. We were directly approved before Goodrich or Spirit was. They had to use our approval to sell Boeing the parts we made for them. Couple year later each tried to burden extra DPD stuff on the company. I got a wavier directly from Boeing since we had our approval before they did.

MBD is a lot more involved that was is the Data source is used correctly It is a digital manufacturing process and direction to many just don't get. The think they do until they use it across the whole organization it is juts all talk. Go look up MBD for Enterprise and see what the DOD and DOE are pushing for then you start to scratch the surface of the MBD conversation. DPD from D6-51191 is just one part of MBD not the whole picture.
