C-axis Ghost Move - Strange and Unusual!

Recommended Posts

Running a new post on a Mori-Seiki CLX 450. I am machining 2 wrench flats using the living tooling. First flat comes in good (although this originally isn't the case), but when it goes to the other side. As we can see the movement here:

X2.6497 C143.768 F555.27
X2.6754 C143.132 F486.89
X2.7058 C142.602 F405.21
X2.7398 C142.19 F314.67
X2.7765 C141.904 F218.75
X2.815 C141.747 F120.63
X2.964 C141.406 F68.13
X3.1131 C141.098
X3.0359 C220.087 F558.98
X2.7372 C219.55 F53.78
X2.6985 C219.406 F110.1
X2.6615 C219.129 F211.29
X2.627 C218.723 F310.93
X2.5961 C218.192 F405.6

Somewhere in there when it is supposed to go to C141.406 (for instance) instead of going to this degree location, the C-axis will turn 360 degrees in the opposition direction. There is no code as I see it that directs it to change directions, instead, (I'm assuming) it sees the "closest" path to that position as travelling a full 360. This ends up with an entire relief along the entire diameter of my part.

I'm hoping I'm making myself clear. I'm wondering if this is the machine or the post. I cannot believe it is the post as there is nothing in the code stating a change in direction. But something in the machine maybe? Should I call the Ghostbusters? In MasterCam the verification graphics do not make these moves - only when I run. Strange, eh?

OK, let me update this thread...

X2.6497 C36.232 F486.79
X2.4863 C30.724 F558.17
X2.3492 C24.52 F629.78
X2.2429 C17.65 F698.39
X2.1718 C10.223 F755.72
X2.1393 C2.44 F792.54
X2.147 C354.568

As you can see here, the C-axis is moving in a certain direction; degrees count down (36, 30, 24, 17, 10...), it ends at 2 degrees and then the post wants it to go to 354 (or really -6 degrees). Instead of doing directly to this, the C-axis makes a full revolution in the opposition direction - here is my issue. Is this a post problem or a machine parameter issue?

Funny just seen this same thing with a project. Are you using a Polar process or a Coordinate process for your C Axis output. We have seen this with Polar that we don't see with Coordinate. Need to work out all the posting issues and make sure if you need shortest distance code or Positive or Negative direction code for your machine they are working correctly, but once you get past that you should be good to go.
