ok, i got my first computer in 1986 and I go back to ms dos 6 on the first computer I built.  I can program in several languages besides G/M code.  Java, perl and Python are my favorite.

BUT... I concede, why in the world does my pc at home show my floppy in the quick access on the left but it does not at work?  Exact same external drive.  I bought them both at the same time.  I plug it in at home and it shows up.  Not so at work.  I have to browse to it to see it.

I've tried about 8 different things found by google search.  none work.

I had something similar happen. I'm usually connected to dozens of drives at different locations thru VPN and lost one if them once. I figured out that one of the USB drives used that particular letter.

Shot in a dark, but plug in one or two USB drives and then plug in that external floppy drive

If it's a USB external drive and at work you  have access, you might have to go into

Administrative Services >> Computer Management >> Disk management

Then you may have to assigned Drive Letter and assign it one that is not in use.....typically I go down to Z or Y and the system will "generally" assign drive letters in descending order

Might check to see if the USB power management has been set to turn them off to save power. Use to see this a lot where the computer would turn off the USB and the sim would be disconnected. Then it wouldn't come back until powered down and powered back up. Also some IT people like to disable the USB through the BIOS so nothing can be copied off the computer to control company information.
