I ended up setting the levels to the level with the geometry on it in that menu (grey exclamation point in the mach def manager), saved the definition, and the geometry disappeared.

case closed. :P

A "Machine Definition" is really a Mastercam File, with a different File Extension. This is done so that a MD can contain a 'Mastercam Database', and otherwise "interact" with the Mastercam system.

If you open a Machine Definition for editing, while you have a Part File currently open, it is really easy to inadvertently save your Part File geometry into the MD by mistake.

It won't hurt anything to have the Geo in there, other than bloating the file size of the MD.

To get rid of the Geo, try this:

Machine Tab > Machine Type > Design. (Set Mastercam to Design mode)

File > New (Start with a blank Mastercam Database)

Machine Tab > open the Machine Definition Manager. Since no machine is loaded, it will prompt you to open one. Open your MD with geometry.

With the MD open, double click on one of your Rotary Components. In the dialog, change any setting. (For example, change from CW to CCW for the rotation direction. Green check the Dialog box.

Press the Save button. (Save the MD)

With the Machine Definition Manager dialog still open, reverse the change you just made. (Change whatever you changed back to the original setting.)

Now green check out of the Component Properties, and do a Save on the MD.

Now, green check out of the MDM dialog box.

Once the MD dialog is closed, open the Levels Manager, and be sure all levels are visible.

Now, uze CTRL + A to "select all", then press the Delete Entities button. This *should* get rid of that Geo that is saved in your MD.

The final step is to use File > Save in Mastercam. Mastercam will display a small dialog box, asking if you want to "save the geometry to a Mastercam File" OR "Save the file to a Machine Definition". <<< Pick the 2nd option (Save to a Machine Definition File).

That should work to delete that rogue geometry.

In the future, always, always, do Machine Type > Design, File > New, before making any edits to a Machine Definition File.
