Is there a way to lock a level

So you know the deal. Had about 40 toolpaths, somehow the geometry on a level got deleted and bam! Had to remake and re-select everything. 2 hours later I'm ready to post. Seems a good function would be a level lock?????? Am I missing something

There is no way, but it has been requested before.

Send an email to qc at Mastercam dot com and they can add you to the list.

Are your files on a server. If so you should be able restore previous versions. If not a thumb drive might be in order.

No server. I know its on me but locking some geometry down would be a nice option

You could use your back - up file path in your config file to save a copy to a folder on your desk top every time you save. That might minimize your losses....

You generally get an "are you sure" message asking if you want to delete all or only un-associate geo.  Did you yes it?

Yes I do back up every 30 min. I got the message I was trying to delete a duplicate solid I was messing with. I did not realize both levels were on... Then because I was in the planes window instead of toolpaths I did not see everything blow up tell after I saved... Errrr.... I like the new layout of Mcam, but I also am not a fan of how the side window works. I like the old school where toolpaths are always visible so U notice something like that immediately. Either way all of my stupidity could have been impossible with something as simple as a little lock button for the level...

As Ron said it's been requested before a few times. I asked in the X7 era - I still like the way that AutoCAD handles it - since 1995?

You can blank your level.

The surfaces will reappear  after regen

 Other geometry will stay blanked you can unblank it -> select by level

I akways blank the geo for solid building 

Saves me from lot of headache

Have you got multiple copies being saved I your back up? You could then go to a previous save and copy the lost geometry and merge it into the file you lost it from, still have to rebuild the solid but would save some work.

I like this idea. 

Another  alternative is to create the solid in a separate file, make a copy, turn it into a dumb body and import this into your working file.

This has the added advantage of keeping your working file size down and reduce verification time , especially with complex solids. And you always have a safe backup of the solid which can also be edited.....

QC emailed me back and said they'll add me to the list with all the others. Cant give me a time frame.. lol I cant imagine the feeling of satisfaction I will get, if and when they add this feature knowing that I somehow contributed to the betterment of MasterCam.. Sure wish I knew how to make a chook to do it. How hard can it be..

I can't wait for this option. Layers with 0 entities being removed automatically is driving me crazy!
