Help combining all entities into one solid model

Recommended Posts

New to mastercam and need some help with my solid model, currently using 2017 edition. After completing my drawing and extrusions it shows I have 30 entities on the one level. How can I combine them into one entity on the levels tab?

If anyone could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. Thank you for your time.

Create a level for the geometry you used to construct the solid. It helps of your geometry is a different color from your solid.

Move your geometry to a this separate level and  you will be left with just the solid on the original level.

You can check this using the screen statistics function.

Thanks for the reply Nick. Just to clarify, I'm gonna create a new level then select my geometry. Then u say "move", move as in via the translate button under the transform tab?

I believe what you have is all the geometry you used to create the solid AND the solid all on one level. To check this select only the level in question and hit the screen statistics button. It should tell you there is one Solid and multiple arcs, lines and / or splines.

If you only want the Solid entity on the level then you need to separate the Solid from the rest. Normally when I create a solid I start with a Solid Geometry level (usually with part number or some other identifier). When I want to start generating the actual Model I will create a new level (usually adjacent to the Solid Geometry Level) and call it the same but with Model instead of Geometry in the title.

With both levels open but with the Model Level as the Active (highlighted) Level the Solid  will be constructed on the Model Level and the geometry you are using will be on (or remain on) the Geometry Level. You missed separating them by creating only one level, so you need to separate them as an after thought.

I am assuming you are using 2017/2018 and I am using X9 so the controls are a bit different but if you go to the Command Finder and type "levels" the Move/Copy Levels option will come up.

You can select either the Geometry OR the Solid to move (NOT copy) to your new level. Make sure you have only the Solid on your Solid Level by using Screen Statisics again. You don't want to Transform the Geometry, just move it from one level to another.....

In X9 I have a small Levels button at the bottom of my screen. I select the geometry/entities I want to change the level of, right click the button and it gives me the option of moving or copying to the Active (highlighted) Level (default), or to some other level of my choice.

Good evening to you all...

Long shot as that's an old topic.

My problem is kind of other way round.  I'm using X5 and opened a STP file I wanted to work on ..  However it's showing as one entity and I can't move or copy any geometries to other levels... Well I can move or copy the whole thing bit this is not what I'm after. When I right click on levels and the dialog box tells me to pick entities I want to move/copy, when i try to do that is picks the whole model. Funny as I've never had that problem before... We also have X3 at work and i opened the same model in it and it worked ok, I could copy and move entities without any problems. Hope that can be sorted and I can somehow break down that model.

I'm guessing you want to break down the SOLID model into SURFACES, this can be done by going to the solid menu and picking solid from surfaces. If its wireframe you need then the function would be wireframe curve on all edges.
