AL 5080

Hello everyone,

I got trouble to machine Al 5080. The part will be twisted like metal after first rough op. can someone give me a direction how to tackle this part.

Just looking at the properties it should machine like 6061. It's got extra Chrome in it but not that much.

How big are the parts? What kind of cutters are you using?

As with all Heat Resistant materials keep your chip load up and the number of impacts to a minimum.

Chromium is another problem but you normally need a few percentage points difference in composition to see a difference in dimensional instability.

I am sorry. This material is Al 5086 in stead of 5080. thank Nckbe10 for your inputs.

This part 1.25 x 26.00 OD. The water channel is .600 depth inside and 5.00 c-bore x 2.500 dia through.

You have to rough the stress relief out of it.  Rough leaving 0.05in, flip it, rough leaving 0.025in, flip it, finish, flip it, finish.

Is that the No HAZ aluminum?  I've worked a lot with that stuff.  It really machines beautifully I thought, along with being bend-able.
