Countersinks

What is the most efficient way to program countersinks?  The flat on the end varies . There doesn't seem to be a spelled out standard for these tools. I have been physically measuring tools before I program them.

I use chamfer mills from harvey with precision flats.

when i don't know the flat i program to Z0. and tell them to adjust at machine

I always note that I program Spots & chamfers to a true point...

As I cannot control which exact tool will be setup, I program to the point and the the setup people measure the flat, if there, and adjust as necessary

1) Buy from Harvey tool. Tools are the same size. I've never seen a difference.

2) Put a note in the program to comp high on those tools. Then adjust to size.

3) Put a note in the shop, "All shaped tools, countersinks, drill mills, chamfer tools, corner rounds need to have the length comped high to start. Then adjust on first part."

 

This may sound stupid but a few minutes  at the start can save you parts at the end.

Yep, pretty much have to buy a tool where the nose dia is consistent so that you can draw your tool correctly.

Harvey Tool, Lakeshore Carbide, there are a few places that sell them. I prefer Lakeshore Carbide personally.
