Using back offset, controlled on machine

Recommended Posts

At our shop we run Okuma LB3000 lathes and normally, when using grooving ops we control the dimensions of the part with offsets, i.e. T070715 and T070707. Normally, with OSP300's conversational programming this is not a problem - it'll finish the far right side of a groove with offset 15 and the left side with offset 7.

However, when programming in Mastercam it seems we have to compensate the final size by changing the insert size, which is a lot of work reposting from Mastercam instead of controlling it on the machine.

Is there something I'm missing as to using more than one offset in one operation?

Do you accomplish that by having two tool definitions; one for the front edge and one for the back edge?

No, just properly defined tool and set the different offset for the back edge and the post should handle it

That's within a basic Mastercam grooving cycle...

If you are using a groove tool to turn, yes, you need to different definitions to achieve to proper output
