I am looking for the variable that returns the value from Tool Description in the tool database. MC 2019.

Typically, you can use the NCI predefined String Variable:

strtool$

If that isn't the string you want, the 20,000 series parameters contain the Tool Data strings.

It might be 20001, 20002, or 20003. (Other lines contain "space delimited numbers, in 'string' format").

For stings that have no predefined variable, you capture the value like this:

First, define a String Variable to hold the value:

stool1 : ""

Then, add a line to 'pparameter$' Post Block:

(Inside pparameter -)

# make sure there are six space characters in front of the 'if' statement!

      if prmcode$ = 20003, stool1 = sparameter$

Thanks Colin, I am sure you were working from memory but, strtool seems to return the name, I need the description.

You've probably figured this out already, but the tool description isn't available to MP.

The only way I know how to get the description into the posted code is to create a Net-Hook and call it from the post.

That's for the Manufacturers tool code t the bottom of the list, looking for the field at the top (Description), I am sure I have seen it in a post, by someone from CNC I think...

NCI Ref guide for 2020 gives this for information, guess You have to use an available field and tweak the output to suit your needs, I use the chuck field for the information in the description field and use that in my post and get it into the nc code output  and setup sheet.
