MC9 file history

So, good morning.

Is there a way to view a log file or something like that that will allow me to see the history of a specific MC9 file? I am trying to track down the differences between 2 very LARGE files that seem to be exactly the same, except for the name. I want to see if the later dated file is a copy of the earlier dated file that was renamed, and if so, who modified it and when. Thanks

_Pete !______________

If you don't mind sending the 2 files, I bet I can probably get you some history information.

That`s very interesting !

Pete I think he means history like "where did this file come from and what did I do with it last".

Are you thinking history like "contents of the feature list/histort tree".

So mmetzenger: What do you actually want to compare? Do you want to know if the surfaces are the same? What you did last to the file?

If you want to compare surfaces (Camaix has a utility for that also) you can import the file, change the colors, import the other file and shade it. If there's major differences you should see it.

I'm thinking this is a job for the "BigDump"! eek.gif No, No, No, not that anything but the Big Dump!!! biggrin.gif

Matt open each file, go to the Operations Manager. Press Ctrl + Shift and double right click in the grey area below the buttons on the Ops Manager. Select "Display Geometry Dump File". Then a box will pop up that will ask you if you want to delete all non toolpath referenced geometry. Select No. If you get any messages about duplicate entities, don't delete them. NOw a file called "bigdump.txt will be created and display. Save this file under another name. Then do this for the other file. Now fire up Cimco Editor, and do a file compare between the two files and you shoudl be able to see the differences.

Thanks everyone.

What I want to do is to see if the later dated file is a renamed copy of the earllier dated file, and if there have been any modofications made. As I said, they are EXACTLY the smae sized files, so I believe there have been no mods, but i need to know for sure.

Not to bring up the past (my wife tells me I am GREAT at this), but when I used to program UG, it has a nice feature called part history. It will give you a printout of everytime the file was accessed, if it was renamed form a previous file, what version it was created in, when it was brought up to the next version, who accessed it, on what day, at what time, blah, blah, blah. It helped some times, so this is where I am coming from. I am not bashing anything here, just wanting to be able to do the same thing, or similar in MC

With my method you will be able to compare them. Entity by entity, operation by operation, time/datestamp by time/datestamp. Try it out. You'll see. Granted it's not exactly a pushbutton solution but it easy to do.
