project_pt_onto_surf in Chook returning false on sphere shaped surface

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I am using the function project_pt_onto_surf to create a p_3d map of a solid , it works fine except on surfaces where the pt passes through multiple sides of the surface like a closed sphere shaped surface where it is returning false. I am using mastercam 2018 SDK.

bool err = project_pt_onto_surf  ( surf_type,  //(in)
  1,      //(in)
 true,    //(in)
  point,  //(in)
  .5, //(in).5 or maxu - minu both seem to work in most cases
  uv,     //(p_3d out)
  proj_pt //(proj_pt out)
 ) ;
if(err)
{
//store_ent
}

I was wondering if anyone else had encountered this issue?
