OpenCL

So, my co worker told me about openCL as a tool for improving mastercam performance with nvidia cards.   We have a Quadro K620 and I'm wondering if OpenCL will work on that or if there is even a setting inside the software?  I just downloaded the latest drivers and I don't see the setting there for open CL, so i'm wondering if the card supports it or not...

Thoughts?

Mastercam 2020 uses Open CL to enable some high speed toolpaths to access the graphics card for toolpath computations.

If you install MC202 and get a warning during install, it means your card or your drivers do not support Open CL 1.2

If you get the warning you just click through it and continue. Mastercam will run normally

If you don't get the warning Open CL is supported

Problem

How to tell what version of OpenCL is on a Windows system.

Solution

Click the Start button in Windows.

Type Device Manager.

Expand Display adapters in the tree control, and right-click on the NVIDIA or AMD/ATI graphics card.

Right-click on the graphics card and select Properties.

Select the Driver tab.

Click the Driver Details button.

Look for OpenCl.dll or OpenCL64.dll and look at the file version. It must be version 1.2 or later to support OpenCL double precision.

If your graphics driver is not at this version, or if the OpenCL dlls are missing altogether, try updating your graphics driver.

Thanks.

I do have an account @ mastercam, but they blocked access to the forums for me.... i'm like wtf..

I did look yesterday at the driver folder and OpenCL is indeed one of the files listed there, but I thought there might've been an option in the software to force the card to use OpenCL 100%...

I think these accounts need to be refreshed once a year

  • 4 weeks later...

I have been battling this for a while, tried new drivers, old drivers and did not work.

contacted qc at mastercam and advised to turn off onboard graphics and install latest drivers! did not work. what did work was turning the onboard graphics back on in the bios, and bamm I now have open cl and mcam now runs as it should.

btw I have a Quadro m4000.
