X6 lathe

It happens randomly to me,

opening up the conversation of lathe :realmad:

I have to walk away now :wallbash:

I'll take the bait ;-)

<Rant On>

The entire project management of X6, and Mastercam in general, has been a mess.

The complete lack of attention to Lathe, and by extension MTM, is inexcusable.

Mastercam Lathe is essentially unchanged since the first X version.

To charge a maintenance fee for a product that is NOT being reviewed and updated is unethical.

Paying for support is justified. The whole concept of maintenance is unethical.

It is an implicit statement that what you purchased was broken when you bought it.

There is a lot that is EXCELLENT with MC but there is a lot that's unbelievably bad.

The bad is there because it's clear that those in charge of managing development are doing a very poor job.

What is the point of having Beta Testers and end-users submit bug reports if they are never addressed and

there is ZERO feedback to those who reported them?

You do NOT place a higher priority on new functionality before fixing what's been broken for YEARS.

Why on earth is MC involved with a SwissTurn product before providing the MTM product that was actually PROMISED?

There are a lot of good people at CNC so I don't want them all to be painted with the same brush.

But there is clearly a disconnect from the end-user, the CUSTOMER, when it comes to product development and

giving the customer what they actually pay for and need.

Additionally, there is an arrogance of complacency that comes from CNC when it comes to dealing with this.

It is this, more than anything else, that has rubbed loyal users and customers the wrong way.

I'll end my rant with the words of William Edwards Deming.

"It is not necessary to change. Survival is NOT mandatory."

the boss don't even want to give them a chance.

good people over at shopware too.

I sat with them, Chris and Matt, I believe, through training.

They may be able top offer something.

Course if your boss already has something, he may not want another title but if they're programming by hand it "might" be worthwhile to at least talk with them.

I have had to split up my mill turn. I can get by in X6 with the 5 axis milling but the lathe side I resort back to X5, altho its still a bug turd, it's a smaller one. one thing that finally works in X6 is the rapid feed function while using G43.4 in the Integrexes. This has made transition moves much smoother. Anyone usinging rapid while G43.4 is active know's what I'm talking about. Seeing the spindle try to track with the part rotating between spindles while milling is scary. Rapid feed using a cylinder for clearance area fixed my problem

How long do they honestly expect people to be quiet about the lack of attention to Lathe & MTM?

That lack of attention puts their dealers in a very difficult spot not mention their own customers.

Actually there have been some improvements to Mastercam Lathe. This is from the "Whats New" pdf.

X4

1) Groove supports multiple chains.

2) Groove finish has an option to overlap in the middle of the groove.

3) Groove finish has optional separate feed rate and spindle speed.

4) Groove finish has optional dwell in corners.

5) Groove rough has optional first plunge feed rate.

6) Groove supports tool inspection.

7) Improved ability to create a turn profile from a solid.

8) Verify has improved support for boring bars.

X5

1) New plunge turn toolpath, based on the Iscar plunge and turn tools.

2) Chuck unclamp has an option to eject the stock.

3) Cutoff can start the cut at an incremental distance from the stock, instead of an absolute height.

4) Cutoff supports back face stock amount, to leave extra stock on the cutoff piece.

5) Cutoff supports an optional secondary feed rate and spindle speed, at a defined radius.

6) Cutoff can optionally keep both halves of the stock, instead of just one half.

7) Rough supports tool inspection.

8) Rough has an extra exit amount, to extend the end of the cut.

9) Rough has an optional front clearance angle.

10) Lathe toolpaths support cutter comp in control optimization, to remove small internal arcs.

11) Improved lathe tool compensation.

X6

1) Improved cutoff/pickoff operations, requires post processor support.

2) Rough supports variable depth roughing.

3) Rough has a remaining stock option, to minimize air cuts.

4) Finish supports downward cutting, which breaks the chain into sections and cuts the sections individually.

5) Finish supports tool inspection.

6) Improved canned rough and canned finish.

7) Canned groove has optional separate feed rate and spindle speed for finish passes.

8) Face toolpath has optional separate feed rate and spindle speed for finish passes.

9) Face toolpath has optional corner break, for radius or chamfer, and various cutting strategies.

10) Groove rough has optional first plunge retract feed rate.

11) Groove finish has an option to remove undercuts from the chain.

Have you looked at what other CAM packages offer? There is issues with MC lathe that need to be addressed but all we keep hearing is "next release".

With a name like "Whatever" I don't really even expect you to take any of this seriously anyways.

Whatever's response is a prime example of the existing problem.

If "Whatever" actually understood what they posted they would be embarrassed.

I couldn't help but notice that "Whatever" didn't bother to address the PROMISED MTM product.

Well, as I previously stated in Deming's quote.

"It is not necessary to change. Survival is NOT mandatory."

5 years ago, RIMM was at the top of the Smartphone market.

Heck, they CREATED the market more than 10 years ago with the first Blackberry.

Fast forward to today, RIMM's stock in the tank and the company is now an active takeover target,

with it's value seen solely in its patents.

This past February the stock was at $70 and today it is just under $14.

Keep ignoring your users and customers and the inevitable will be upon you sooner than later.

The Circle will get very small, very quickly.

Guys just go back to V9 it works well

I don't know if your trying to be funny but going back to V9 is not even realistic. I'm sure I'm not alone when it comes to expecting a working software that I'm paying for. Some day CNC will understand that when we pay for something it needs to work and if it doesn't they need to fix it without making us pay more for it. All they have been doing the last few years is telling us to pay our maintenance and it will be fixed in the next release, then when that next release comes out its MU1 it will be fixed. I don't think its too much to ask that they provide the software that we are paying for.

I was having fun mate.

All you guys ranting should send your issues to [email protected]

Ranting in here does not help, believe me I've been there too.

Remeber this web site is run by InHouse not CNC software.

If you send your issues to CNC via QC all I can say is I get a reply everytime.

Doesn't mean it will get fixed but at least this way CNC know about it.

Cheers Dave

Whoa there easy on the guy. All he posted was what is new from x4-x6 on lathe. Didn't post any comment or option, just the facts.

(which someone else earlier didn't have)

Interactions like these do not encourage cnc participation in the forum anyway.
