  1. I gave up talking to CNC Software about a year and a half ago. They told me that I'm the only one that doesn't like their changes, everyone else loves it so I should learn to like it. I know a fair number of people who've bought other software due to the changes in and since 2017. I'm still running X9 and it's rock solid. I love it. If they took X9, added the improved toolpath algorithms, and fixed a few bugs it would be phenomenal. I "dump" on change for its own sake, especially when it it hinders my workflow and costs me time and money. I "dump" on a software company that has admitted that attracting new entry level customers is far more important to them than the productivity of established and experienced customers.

  4. There are a few people out here in So Cal that do this. Do a Google search been years since I needed this for any shop I worked in, but been in shops that were having this done. Another option is to contact different service centers in the US and see if they have any secondary companies they recommend.

  5. Just change format statement from decimal to integer for peck1$ variable. If you need calculation for all drill cycles you can add your formula anywhere in pst file without indent. fmt "Q" 4 peck1$ #First peck increment (positive) peck1$ = peck1$ / 0.0001

  6. Try this experiment. Find an experienced master craftsman of any kind, sneak into his shop while he's asleep, and replace the handle on every one of his tools with a T-handle. Then sit back and watch what happens when he tries to use them. The interface is the handle on the software. It should conform to me and the way I want to use it, not force me to change my grip to adapt to it.

  7. Total BS and not required for ISO at all. A customer maybe demanding this specifically for their approval, but I doubt it. I would have written in your procedures something like:- Program Amendments Amendments may be required for many reasons (part change, continuous improvement etc). If it is deemed necessary to modify the program, it is changed by the following process;- a) Edit the NC Program b) Run the part program to prove the amendment c) ‘Cut metal’ to produce the part. d) Verify it is correct by Inspection. e) If correct, save the NC Program to the computer Network, overwriting the original. f) Amend any associated documents (if necessary). What I will add is:- The above can only be done by approved people (your training matrix will show who is approved to do which tasks) Within your procedure should (IMO) be a statement which says something along the lines that you have a folder called Customer Part Number and Revision, and within that is everything to make the part including an OOI (out of issue) folder, and within there, is the previous Revision folder with everything in there (including your old program). So if you ever need to see changes, you can run file compare to see. HTH

  8. I have been using it since the late 80's. I have seen it grow and get better and I have seen it go backwards sometimes. I hate updating! it is a big PIA. I hate when they change things that are working like hole selection and than go backwards in 2019 & 2020. The trim function is annoying as well as the note in drafting. I think for most of us the newer toolpaths are fluff. Not all of them, but most. Just my 2 cents.

  9. New version...new bugs. Took me all of 2 minutes in programming my first part in 2020 till I found a bug with creating planes via the gnomon.....The bug is not a deal breaker but it is frustrating when something worked perfect in the previous version now does not. To be fair, there are a few features I like in 2020....have yet to make a complete transition tho. Waiting to complete a few big projects before dealing with more surprises.

  10. WHY was this changed? It wasn't broken. Just change stuff for the sake of it? Why not put a vote here and Mastercam's official forum and let the users decide?

  11. I was brought on here to start the in-house machining department, and aside from being informed we were getting a Haas I was able to choose everything else for the shop. As 2017 hadn't come out yet, I got Mastercam. One of the company's founders is starting a new company on the side, and he contracted me to advise him on hardware and software. I did not recommend Mastercam. If this company survives long enough and expands, I'll eventually want another programmer and another CAM seat. Will I buy more Mastercam, or will I get something else? I tell you what, I'm a lot more open to other options now than I would have been four years ago. If CNC Software is betting on my exiting the field they'll have to hold on for at least another twenty years, and I'm only becoming more influential. Things that matter: 1. How long does it take you, as an experienced user, to program and verify a part and produce good setup documentation? 2. How reliable is that process, including setup? 3. What's the cycle time on that program? Things that don't matter: 1. How pretty is the user interface? 2. Does the software seamlessly integrate and synergize the latest buzzwords and fads? 3. Does the user interface look like what millennials have come to expect from common office software and social media apps?

  13. I've been using MC since 2002. I've submitted bugs to QC, typically with sample files and documentation on how to replicate the bug. I don't remember exactly how many bugs I've submitted but I'd bet my paycheck it's between 5-12. The QC guys were always professional and pleasant to deal with and always gave me a bug# to track it. In fact, all of my correspondence with ANYONE from CNC Software has always been pleasant. That being said, I don't recall a single one of those bugs ever being fixed.
