  1. An easy way to backup your Machine/Control/Post files. With a file opened with (at least one) operation using the Machine and its related files. File -> Zip2Go (on the backstage menu). Make sure the proper "Machine Group types" is checked. (Optional) You can also uncheck the "Config file" under File Options. Now "Create file" to generate the ZIP package. You will get more files in the output than you really need, but who cares? You have these important ones you need backed up.

  2. I don't convert solids to surfaces anymore. You can fill holes directly on the solid model, no need to convert to surfaces.

  3. Yes sir me also for the most part unless I am doing some crazy millman stuff then I revert back to surfaces or even wireframe to drive a toolpath exactly like I want.

  5. Speaking of copies, I always put a "safe" copy offsite just in case the building burns down. There can never be enough backup!!!

  6. Every Post has different features and functions. Instead of thinking "should this be done a certain way", like reading a value from the machine definition, that is totally User-Preference, and based on who built your Post. Your Post has a bunch of features and functions. You should read through those switches, and the comments at the top of the Post, to see "how the particular Post Developer set up that Post", and what features it includes. Are you aware of the Misc. Integer and Reals Numbers? These are set at the Operation Level, and are used by the developer to control NC Code output, based on the programmer changing the input in the Operation file, and forcing a regeneration before Posting. In general, every Post makes use of the Misc. Values, in some way. Even "in the background", based on the default values, those numbers change the code output which is written to your file as NC Code. If you're delving into Post Editing (or configuration) > I'd highly recommend you start with MPMaster. There is a bunch of extra logic, in both MPMaster (Mill), and MPLMaster (Lathe), for things like High Speed Code output, which is just not present in the default Posts from CNC Software. But, you'll need to read through the Post, and try/test the output. Don't be afraid to setup your Ops, Post the Code, then open the Post in a text editor, change a switch, save the Post, and 'repost' the file, to see the output change. However > MAKE A BACKUP OF THE FILE FIRST, IN A DIFFERENT FOLDER. Sorry, didn't mean to yell, but really needed to emphasize that last point. In fact, make two backups, in separate folders. Just to be sure. Also, remember that Machine Definition and Control Definition Settings, will affect Post output as well. So, back those up as well. Be sure to read the "How to set Control Definition Defaults" topic on the main page. Check my signature > I have YouTube videos called "MP 101", which covers a basic post processor class that I taught back in 2016 or 2017.

  7. Depends on the age of the post and where the company you work for purchased the post from. I have seen companies carry V6 posts from 30+ years ago forward and then wonder why their post doesn't support the modern stuff in Mastercam. They get an updated post and then realize how much money they lost for all those years cheaping out and not spending money on a good post.

  8. Sorry talk about a extremely vague and fishing for something to use for competition or support your case to use either software you are familiar or a different one that Mastercam question. Sorry you are going to need to present a lot more street cred before I even think to answer more than what I say to this loaded question. My reseller is great and very responsive. I am not a quitter and don't expect anyone to cater to me. I need something I make sure that is known and understood. Having done Tech Support for Mastercam over a decade ago for a Mastercam Reseller I loved the anonymous complainers who never called or emailed the office, but complained to their bosses we didn't help them. Then the bosses would call raising all kind of grief and then we have to let them know cannot help those who never ask for help. Then we would get a call when they showed up an another company and then they would wise up and finally ask for help. They would finally get some real training and start using the software correctly. I am self taught and used Mastercam for 20+ years and still have a lot to learn about using Mastercam. Part of the reason I help on the forum because helping others helps me to learn different ways to use the software I never thought or have seen before. I also believe in giving back to this profession and don't need a YouTube channel or major sponsorship to do that either. There is always three sides to most stories. Each person's perspective and the truth. What is your story? Who is your reseller? What is your specific problem or issue? Do you have a Z2G with the post showing an exact example of the problem you are running into? I love the have a problem with Mastercam Topics and it sucks and that is it. No exact reason or why it just sucks. Then you try to help and get called a fanboy. Get your name plastered all over the internet and run through the mud because you have figured out how to make a living with a tool. Mastercam is a tool like any software. It has its plus and minuses like any software. You give enough information and guess what someone can help you. Give vague postings like this and expect someone's mind reading ability to kick in then sorry you are not going to be very happy with any software.

  9. Does any of you script writers out there know how to modify this stuff for x64 bit? FrontFit.vbs RightFit.vbs TopFit.vbs IsoFit.vbs ViewFit.dll ViewFit.ft Or do you have to have the native file and software that it was written in to do so. I had this enhancement logged back in 2006, maybe its in the 32 bit version or it is still pending? Cheers Rick
