  1. We are thinking of going wireless here in our shop.

At present we are hardwired with 2 servers. 1st server running Win2k server and 2nd server running winnt 4.0 server.

We are using Focal Point as our DNC software.

We have 15 CNC's and 40 workstation/desktops. (office and shop)

By changing over to wireless, does this affect anything else? (cad/cam - machining - machines)

    Is it worth the cost?

Are there any other variables I should be aware of? Is there anything that I should be looking for or asking for/about?

    Any guidance will be appreciated

  2. We uncovered the culprit.....the part has a curved shape on the bottom...when we go to inspect we set part in fixture and level it by eye.....we then use auto-plane to set the planes... we believe the auto-plane is not compensating the ijk values.......

we indicated the top surface.....ran the inspection program.....all points checked good

  3. Can CMM's programs be adjusted with probe compenstion? (x-y-z or any combination of the axis')

This would be similar to cutter compensation on a cnc machining center.

We are inspecting cavities with steep side wall forms. They are coming out OOT.

I believe the parts are better than the cmm is stating.

Since the walls are so steep (73 deg), a shift in X or Y of .003 translates into .010 shift in Z.

I thought if I can compensate or (pushout) my X & Y values by a .002/.003....this would bring my Z value back into correct position.

    Any thoughts?

  4. There's no doubt Mastercam is more advanced than Smartcam. I know, I used

Smartcam for about 8 years. There are however a couple of options I miss from

    Smartcam....but that's another thread.

You may want to try a formula similar to this one if your boss is looking for #'s.

If Mastercam lets you program 10% quicker than Smartcam.......

    2080 hrs/yr x 10% = 208hrs x $40/hr = $8320

You can adjust #'s to fit your situation.

  5. It's good to know that I am not going crazy. smile.gif

I'm not sure about saving as a parasolid. Having no history tree might cause more problems down the road in the model.

I will try....create fillets on solid....create surfaces from fillets on solid etc..etc..

    Thanks for the help all.

I should of noted that I have spoken to my rep and he has contacted CNC Software about this problem.

  6. I have a solid model and a .DOC file explaining what I am trying to do.

These are links to both files on the ftp site

    delkm01.doc delkm01.mc9

    Here is my problem/question.

I create a solid operation to fillet the two edges I show in the .doc file....at this point all is well...fillets look good and solid manager looks good.

I save the file, then file-get said file....when the file is loading it comes back with errorr's and the fillets I just created are gone.

Does anyone know why this is?

  7. glenn,

I did what you suggested and it produced what I was looking for.....thanks for the help.

    millmancrazy,

Sounds like you have to much time on your hands to read and reread a topic that you

obviously cannot contribute to or solve.

I am not asking for anything free of charge or am I asking anyone to do anything for me.

I am asking what Mastercam is or isn't capable of.

    If I crossed some unwritten/moral/mastercam forum rule.....then I apologize......that said, you

can blast that rocket you know where.

  8. cadcam....sounds ok if it will work on points located on 3d surfaces and outputs xyz locations as well as ijk normal surface vectors.

    glenn....

    quote:

Use, Create, Srf Project, pick surfaces and points and turn on Write XYZIJK in APT format.

I can do what you stated...but what about point order?....random is not what i need...also what if i have 500, 800 or 1000 pts....i don't want to select each point all the time.

  9. I scanned the forum, and I don't think this is possible....but here I go.

I have 64 pts, all different xyz values, in 3d space. I need to print xyz & hopefully ijk values for these points.

Can I print these point positions in an apt format,in a sequence I choose? Not random, I need to define the sequence?

I know surf-proj points will create a apt file.

(this is good, but sequence is all wrong....so this is really bad in the end)

  10. I never had the nuts to use "edit common parameters".....it seemed to easy.... also to easy to scrap a part......so I stayed clear of this option.

Judging from what I am reading.....I made the right choice.

Why is this option there if it is so unpredictable?

  11. I guess what I am asking for is not possible with

    Mastercam.

I have autocursor ON.....and I can create points/lines using all the methods mentioned....Thank you all for trying.

jagourley came the closest to understanding what I am asking for.

One more explanation of my question.

Is it possible to create a point.....where the

"x,y" values are the "x midpoint value" of one line and the "y endpoint value" of a different line? (i want to select just the "x" value of an endpoint then....... select just the "y" value of another endpoint......this will give me my "x,y" location)

I don't know what these values are...I just want to select them. (not analyze and type in values)
