  1. Unbelievable!. Guys.....can someone tell me how the heck is somebody supposed to know this?? The option is soooooooooooooooo far buried in Mastercam that it is IMPOSSIBLE for someone to know this. ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE. Just like most of the multiaxis toolpaths.....impossible to learn. So many little switches and radio buttons and drop down menus that have ZERO LOGIC behind them but when you hit the wall and you reach out to tech support they either have a completely different way to perform the toolpath or some stupid switch they turned on that would take you the better part of a week to figure out. For example...I reached out to Mastercam to help me with an impeller. The geometry was very similar to all of the Multiaxis lessons available from Mastercam and In-house. I couldn't get the toolpath that was used pretty much on every impeller in the lessons to work for me. The guy comes back with smooth toolpaths that will blow your mind and he did not use ANY of the toolpaths mentioned in the tutorials. I went back to him and asked him why the toolpath did not work and guess what......he couldn't answer me. I had to take his solution and walk. Did I learn why the toolpath wasn't working for me?? NO. This is the reason why I still struggle with multiaxis Toolpaths because every time they fix the toolpath they cannot explain the logic behind the fix. So let me say something to the developers.......Software needs to be built with logic. If you miss the logic behind it, nobody can learn it. PERIOD. It's that simple. So the next time you want to place a new radio button or add an option in the drop down menu ask yourself this.....if someone encounters an issue and the fix is a click of a radio button, is the option a logical solution? Does someone have that "lightbulb" moment and say "ooooh yeah...I get it...that makes sense" when they click the radio button? Developers....Get your head out of the coolant.....stop pretending that everybody knows what you know and build logic into the toolpaths. $30,000 software and zero logic. Pathetic. I would fire the entire developer team. No-kidding. Enough is enough.
  2. Hi Everyone. I have a trunnion table style 5-axis machine (Mazak VC-500A 5X) I noticed that when I chamfer a thru hole on one face and chamfer the same hole on the opposite face the chamfer is off on the opposite face. It's not concentric to the hole. The machine is about 3 years old and has never been crashed. Have any of you developed a program to test to see if your 5-axis is off? Can you guys share some ideas? Once I zero in on a good program to run I will post the Mastercam file. I want to call the Mazak technician in but I also want to check to see if the problem has been fixed after he is done. Thanks guys!
