  1. Hey all, I don't even know if that's the right way to phrase the questions I have. I've worked as a CNC operator off-and-on for 5 years in total, and have very little programming experience. I'm trying to break into the programming side of things because it interests me and I think I could be good at it. I'm going through the tutorial lessons Mastercam provides, and have noticed the instructors will do things in their tutorials like enabling multipass and depth cuts, adjusting speeds and feeds, and cycling between plunge, ramp, etc, and offering no explanation why. I know what the terms mean, but I do not understand when/why to use them. My questions are: do things like that just come with time and experience? For someone just getting into the industry, is it expected that they have those answers already? What are the factors to consider when making the decision to use those kinds of features? I have no idea if this makes sense to any of you, buy any help/advice would be much appreciated.
