  1. I asked this question back in Sep. 07 and Roger Martin from CNC Software said: quote: "The current Ref. Guide is 'v9'." It is currently being updated and no I do not know when these updated docs will be available. Having been involved in the creation of the current (v9) Reference Guide, I know what a huge job it is! I guess they never finished updating it. I personally would love to see another FULL Post Reference guide like the old V9 one. Rick
  2. quote: give me the old version back where that blue cross isnt there i dont want to hit the blue cross on every pageSpeaking of the blue cross, why do we need that anyway?? Why would I need to apply changes when a simple OK of all my changes would suffice? Why can't any changes I made on a given page automatically "Apply" when I go to another page in the toolpath? I seems like an extra step that really shouldn't be needed.
  3. I agree with Tim, it seems to rear its ugly head most when deleting multiple wireframe entities. And as with Tim, the "Screen/Regenterate Display List" workaround works for me too. Often once this happens if I try to Xform-translate a solid to another location, MC pretends to do so but doesn't do anything. At that point, I have to save the file, close MC, and reload to get functionality back.
  4. Sorry for not searching 1st, it just caught me off guard. 1st time it happened to me. The file seems fine though. I unlocked the path, and re-generated all the toolpaths.
  5. X4 - File was fine yesterday when I closed it - but this morning when I opened it I noticed one of the toolpaths was locked and said REPAIRED NCI Does that mean the file somehow corrupted and MC tried to fix it?? I've just not seen that one before.
  6. I just hope they get this stuff FIXED. So far it hasn't caused me to lose anything other than productivity due to the re-load of MC several times a day.
  7. Am I the only one who is having problems with phantom entities in X4? I will either be translating geometry, trimming wireframe, deleting wireframe, etc... and all of a sudden the deleted items are gone but still there. I have to close MC and re-open it to get them to disappear. This is driving me crazy. I like to stay on top of things with and stay current but this release has to be the least ready for prime time release I've seen in a while. Most of the problems I see are related to the moving or manipulation of existing solids or wireframe. C'mon guys at CNC... If you are listening... PLEASE don't rush out a release for the sake of haveing something new. Make it right BEFORE it hits us. Sorry for the rant...
  8. This has been happening to me in mill 2D paths as well. The by depth/contour buttons do not want to stick. The only workaround I found was to change the DOC then turn off depth cuts, then turn them back on, re-apply my original DOC then change to by contour/depth. Then blue apply. YMMV I'm really getting tired of the X4 bugs!!
  9. I posted on that in This post. I think this will be a great feature once fixed. I'm really getting tired of all the X4 bugs though and am seriously debating on whether or not to go back to X3 until they're fixed...
  10. I've seen the exact same thing, drives me nuts. Don't know why and as you said, it's intermittent. As much as I like to be the progressive - dig into the new version and stay current - person here. The hiccups in X4 are starting to even get to me. Almost seems as though it wasn't quite ready for prime time...
  11. That is the exact same place it happens with me. Don't know exactly what sequence of operations prior to that causes it though. I must be doing what Ken described, running backplot or a wireframe toolpath first?? Oh well, At least I know they are working on it. I think once I get the hang of it completely it will be great to cut multiple tranforms into one.
  12. Same here, it is intermittent. Hope they can fix it... I think it could be a time saver once working reliably.
  13. I've noticed the level manager not updating. I've also noticed that sometimes when I'm creating a new 2d toolpath, the settings don't stay unless in each page I click the blue apply button. That's a real pain and doesn't seem right. Honestly I don't even understand the reason for an apply button. If I didn't want to apply changes, I'd cancel out, otherwise... apply them. for instance, I'l change my lead in / lead out info, click the linking paramaters tab, then go back to lead in/lead out and it has reverted back to what it was before. The only way to get it to stay is hit apply between each page. ... Is that normal now?? If so, it seems like an accident waiting to happen.
  14. Has anyone else had an issue with an Unhandled Exception error when going into Dynamic Xform? I have on a few occasions now. I will select the solid I want to move, and as soon as I click the Dynamic Xform icon, it crashes. This happens before the model goes translucent and before the Gnomon appears. It has happend when the solid has been selected first or when selecting solid after clicking the Dynamic Xform icon and then selecting the green OK ball. Just wondering if I'm the only one.
  15. Thanks Degmc, I put quite a bit of time into getting it where it is now, but I think the end result was worth it. shazam/TPP, we too have those who almost seem to try to mis-interpret what we are trying to convey so they can point the finger at the programmers. Mostly I think those are the ones who would like things to go back to the way it was when the machinists that ran the machines wrote the programs as they went. Some of the same ones who were upset to see the last manual mill leave the shop. With the down turn in the economy though, and the layoffs we've had, we don't have as many of those around anymore.
  16. We use a word based setup sheet as well. In them I include a title page which describes the job and the program revision, a comment page for the machinist to offer suggestions for improvement, and several setup / machining detail pages which include setup screen shots from mastercam and typed tool lists and operation comments as well as the program numbers. Below are a few sample pages from one of the jobs I programmed. This is the title page. Comment page Setup page Machining page We've come a long way from the plain text files we used to give the guys and for the most part I think they appreciate the progress.
  17. A couple years ago when I got my current computer these were the spec's I posted in this thread. quote: 6:02 HP xw8400 Workstation Xeon 5160 @ 3Ghz 4Gb Ram 80G 10K RPM WD Raptor SATA HD NVIDEA Quadro FX 4600 Dual View 20.1" LCD's Today on the same machine, with X4, I get 2:42. That's a savings of 3 minutes 20 seconds! Great job guys!!
  18. Have them shell out for the training from your reseller. Definately worth it's money. Welcome to the forum!
  19. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't beleive that is a complete post reference. Rather it's just an update from prior versions. fro_matt, I got my copy of the post reference guide from our reseller. If you can't get the password, (don't know why it's protected), you might try contacting your reseller to see if you can get a copy from them. Rick
  20. I agree completely with what Jack Neelands said
  21. Gary, Thanks for the link. The production folks here try to have us pre-program as much of the work on the floor as we can. They try to keep the machine idle time down to a minimum that way. I'm sure there will be times it will be programmed manually, but my guess is, if we can program it in Mastercam they will have us do it as much as possible. I have looked through the pdf in your link and unfortunately it doesn't show much in the way of the actual code. It goes into great detail of programming the control at the control via the conversational menu's. I also downloaded thier training manual and pilot book for the control but they cover much the same. Oh well, April will be here before I know it and I'll get to actually lay hands on it to examine the code. Thanks everyone for your help. Rick
  22. quote: When reading extensive documantation I prefer paper over software (easier on the eyes)... Me too.. I asked that same question a while back and was pretty much told they don't publish it except in the PDF format. I think it's easier and less expensive to keep up to date and distribute. I agree completely though I like paper. What I ended up doing was printing off the sections I found myself referencing often. That helped a lot. Once you get into it you'll find you reference less and less. I had heard rumor at that time that they were working on a current post reference guide for X... I'd love to hear the status of that. Rick
  23. quote: I got some little stuff here that is only 140 inches in dia that needs to be done Watching something like that turn would almost be hypnotic. You'd be running what... 20 rpm? I'm not sure exactly what the schedule for the install will be yet. Tentative date of arrival is April 15th. Talked to our reseller and he's researching it a bit. Doesn't have anything off hand though. New machines are always exciting...
