I am looking to learn how to put round stock in the spindle say .75 dia. in a er-32 holder and a turning bit in the vice and profile a part like a cnc lathe. Can this be done in mastercam? I know it can be but how would you go about doing it? I tried a search but I am not sure how to word it. Any links or suggestion to learn how to do this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance
I am trying to machine a wall that is straight up and down with a ball nose. Now I know I can do a contour and do the same thing but I want to be able to 3d ball nose it if I wanted. I can get it to do it but I cannot stop it from gouging into the part. I just would like to machine the face and step down .005 at a time with a ball nose. Can mastercam do this on a vertical face? I attached the part with the toolpath to see if some one can direct me in the right direction. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Thanks Colin for the help. Can you explain where you set approach and retract reference points? I figured out how to turn of gap settings. And when I use flowline it jumps up all over the place instead of just staying down any thoughts there. Thanks again for your time.
I created a surface layer of the area I am trying to machine. Its a swarf undercut and I will be using a lollipop endmill which is already saved in the file. I am wondering if some one could program this or tell me what tool path to use. I thought blend or surface finish flowline would work but I am having no luck. thanks in advance

I am machining 6150 alloy steel that is getting harden (quench & temper) to Rc 54-56. Should I over size the tapped holes? The sizes are M6 x 1.0 and M16 x 1.0.
I have a part that I am using surface parallel on. I got the speed at 80 ipm at .006 step over which is fine except for the initial pass because its taking a full cut. Is there a way to slow the feed down until it gets pass the full engagement of the tool then go back to full speed. I attached the part to show what I am talking about. Thanks

I have a part I programmed with the tool path surface finish parallel. In the beginning it keeps retracting is there a way to change a setting to make it stay down and just zig zag cut like it does when it gets farther down the part? I will attach the program in question so you can see my settings. This is done in MC8. Thanks in advance.

I have a detail made of D2 material that is 1 inch thick that has a tooth profile down one edge. My question is what would be more accurate to get it water jetted or laser jetted or is edm the only way to hold size and finish? I am looking to hold .005 tolerances and preferably no taper to the side where its getting cut. Thanks is advance.
I noticed the option to pick 2 to 1 on filter options is gone gone in X7. What tolerance should I use now to duplicate what used to be 2 to 1. Thanks for the help.
My fanuc controller parameter 5114 is a setting for peck drill return height and Its default was .200 thousands which I think is way to far away. I was wondering what is a safe distance? I would think for cycle time .03 would be a good distance to rapid to but then I was thinking if a chip was still in the hole could that cause a problem? So is there a height you should rapid to that most use? Thanks in advance
I run alot of highspeed machining with my schunk chucks and never had it pull out. I have had the endmill break because I didnt change the endmill when it got dull but never pull out. And example of how fast I run it is a 1/2" 4 flute emco endmill at 9076 rpm and 1.25 depth of cut at .06 step over and never a problem just purrs.
I have been using schunk hydraulic holders for over a year now. And I never have had an endmill pull out. But I have found you have to put the endmill all the way in the holder to get full gripping power. And the chucks hold amazing T.I.R. The run out is crazy small which make the endmill last a lot longer. I find changing tools is a lot faster also, its just a turn of a screw. Verses putting the holder in a tool holder and loosing it with a wrench and then retightening it up and using a cheater bar to make it tight as possible. I am sold on them but if the endmill breaks it some times messes up the sleeve which are a little pricey. I have found drills to be a problem to hold some times because if the tool your holding isnt exactly the diameter of the sleeves intended size it will spin. So I mainly just use it for endmills.
Well I got the Exair chip trapper today and tried it out. Worked as advertised so I would give it my endorsement. Other than the price tag is a little steep but in the long run it will pay for its self.
Well I just purchased one of these Exair 55 gallon drums. I knew I should not have watch the video. I am a sucker for tooling lol. Should be here in the next 2 days.
