There are a few apps out there that will let you run a 3D Connexion device over VPN.
Our IT department let me install one of them and try it.
It worked but the response time was too slow to be useable.
Thank's, as you may have noticed, all I know about Mastercam's API is how to spell it. LOL!
You'd think that with all the effort CNC is putting into using solids to drive toolpaths, they put some effort into making
the Import Manager support solids as well
My reason for stating this is because..
If you import operations from another file that use solid surfaces and select
"Import Geometry", neither the solid nor the solid surface are imported into the new file.
At least that has been my experience.
Are these solid surfaces, selected by clicking a solid face or faces?
I'm pretty sure such surfaces don't really exist.
They are derived from the solid each time you hit regen... and if they don't exist, you can't translate them
Without having a copy of the file I can't recommend a good solution
I would just post a dummy drill cycle at a different B location that punches a hole in a safe place in the sky.
After posting, just delete the dummy drilling toolpath and you are good to go
I still run the same USB Hasp I had back then so I assume I could still run X8 but I would HATE it.
At some point it gets cheaper to just buy a new license than to update an old license that's been off maintenance for years.
I don't know how MC dealers in the UK roll, but with my dealer that would certainly be the case.
edit..
Occasionally Mastercam will have "come back to Jesus" sales,
where they wave some penalties on old out of date licenses.
They usually do this as part of the sales pitch when a new release comes out.
In this case that would be version 2025 due out early this summer.
However, I have no idea if they will do such a sale this year.
There are companies that make fire suppression systems for machine tools.
They are enclosed systems with robust ventilation, smoke and heat detectors.
and the capacity to close all the vents and flood the enclosure with halon.
I've seen video of them before.. I'll bet they are not cheap.
Does your laptop have only one video card?
If it's only got 1 Intel HD graphics card, you are going to need a new machine
However, many laptops come with 2 video cards .
1 for low power general use and a second for gaming and other apps that required more graphics power.
If you have 2 video cards in your machine, go into the BIOS and force it to using the gaming card all the time.
We used to light up a handful of chips on the cement loading dock.
It gets the cement so hot it explodes leaving golf ball sized divots in the cement.
That's not real bright from a safety standpoint, but it was tons of fun.
There's lots of video on youTube of machine tools burned out by magnesium fires.
I think they are called halon fire extinguishers
also keep buckets of sand near by
rigorous chip control is required. clean the chips out constantly.
fine stringers are particularly dangerous.
This should work
Select all operations
right click
select edit operations/Change NC Filename
also
select all the toolpaths
then
Select Files and set your output folder
It you don't have ASK and Edit enabled in the Post Dialog, it may be posting one operation
and sending the rest somewhere else.
This is by design
The "crap" is your 2023 My Mastercam public and private files
You'll need those to migrate your 2023 default settings, operation settings and post processors to 2024.
Most people just install the new release then migrate the 2023 files to the new release.
I normally leave 3 releases on my machine
In V9, nesting was an add-on module you had to purchase.
Once you purchased it you received access codes to allow it to run.
I would be very surprised in you could even purchase those codes today
V9 is 20+ years old now and no longer supported.
