  1. If you want to see a project come to a screeching halt they using a highfeed mill and creating a stock model from the toolpaths. I went back to using an STL from verify for this project because the internal process has simply failed. My computers are not bottom of the barrel either. I can use up my 64Gb of ram easily with a stock model. I create my STL, import it to a level inside of Mastercam and reference the model inside the stock model. It is the only stable process I have found. Gcode, the external STL option is broken. In the toolpath operation it simply fails when you try it. If you use an external STL for a stock model it creates fine but will lose its link anytime you import geometry into the file. I lost several days to this very issue. Happened to me twice and took me about 6 hours each time to regenerate. All that time my file was locked up where I was unable to do other work.
  2. I just rolled it back as far as I could. 392.00 seems to work. Hopefully it doesn't have problems with 2020.
  3. That setting doesn't have an effect on the issue.
  4. Which Nvidia driver are people using? I needed to update my driver for 2020 and now my Windows theme keeps switching when I open Mastercam. Just want to know the latest stable driver number. Windows 7 and a Quadro k5200.
  5. I would gladly use Sandvik products if it wasn't for their horrible website and joke of a software. They have made it impossible to find what you need unless you already know the part number of what you are looking for. Something that should take me seconds takes calling up a sales rep with them, which is really tough for someone like me because I'm not actually the one buying the product. They tend to brush me off because of that. Sadly the vast majority of tool and holder companies are stuck in the past when it comes to online presence and information sharing. I look for a holder that not only is a high quality, but also one that requires me to do the least amount of legwork in order to use. When they make it hard for me I will just skip over them because I don't get paid to spend hours looking for tools or to draw them up.
  6. Wow, Do you actually expect to get help from people with an attitude like that? Feel free to ask anyone at CNC if they consider me a fanboy, I can guarantee the answer would always be no. But even with that I can honestly say your thoughts on Mastercam are flawed. The lack of a dedicated radio button in every path to do some obscure function that you have multiple other ways to accomplish already is not a flaw. What you are trying to do is a simple task, you are just choosing to make it more difficult on yourself. Manual entry being the easiest. You complain that it would be bad if you forgot to add that though. Well that is all on you. This is a trade where attention to detail is key. You had two people offer to edit your post for you and yet you keep complaining about not having time. Seems to me you just want to complain and nothing will stop your temper tantrum unless you get exactly what you want before you want it. A poor craftsman blames the tools for his failures.
  7. Not bad for a Xeon powered laptop. 2018
  8. That's a good idea. I usually just save my mcx folder to a backup location on my server with the date.
  9. I decided to try replacing my Workspace file with the file off my laptop and that seems to have corrected my issue. This is a great case for keeping a backup at all times.
  10. Here is one of the best explanations on Multiaxis rough. YouTube
  11. Mastercam 2018 no longer remembers the last size of docked panes. It is reverting to a smaller size causing me to resize them every time I open Mastercam, which for me is countless times a day. This is a new issue that has developed sometime in the last two weeks. Any ideas what would cause this and how to fix it? Undocked panes are not an issue, I keep my levels on a second monitor and that one stays the size I want it.
  12. With my new laptop I just got 1 minute 6.55 seconds in 2018 with the tolerance set to .0001. Xeon E3-1535M 64GB EEC RAM
  13. Most of the CAD software on the market today is parametric. Topsolid, Solidworks, Creo, and inventor to name a few. They use a history of everything you do allowing you to easily go back and make changes. I't really handy when you are dealing with an assembly.
  14. I agree, its crazy that so many machinist's believe that they can only be one or the other. I have run across this my entire career. I by far have more experience on a mill but that doesn't mean I don't keep up on turning. In fact my last project that required me to run the machine was on a live tool lathe. As for Ron's list, I haven't worked on several of those kinematic configurations but that doesn't mean I wouldn't/couldn't. Much of the knowledge gained will apply moving from one 5-axis to another or from one mill/turn to another. Fixture design is probably the my least favorite part of what I do. I just don't enjoy it most times. I have been using a parametric software lately and that definitely helps. A few of the tools I have available makes it much quicker to get things done.
  15. I agree, the Verisurf tools are great. Being able to fit shapes on a STL makes it easy to Xform them around because you actually have something to grab onto. I think one reason you don't see more people complaining about stock models is a lot of people simply don't use them.
