  1. Thanks for explanations, sorry for the delay, I was out of the office (in a Siemens aerospace workshop) they were presenting their 840D. Thanks again! Simon
  2. Thanks a lot I'm back from the machine and and do exactly what I want. We have other 5x machines that needs to be program from pivot points and inverse time so these options are new to me. It looks much simpler to have a smooth toolpath that way. MMT-USA I didn't try the type 2 (g43.5) roughly what is better? Such a great place to hang around! Thanks again! JS
  3. Good morning all, I'd like to know where my G43.4 should be: If I put it after my XY positionning, my entry point isn't compensed so it enters far out and if I output it before "illegal command in G43.4" which I assume you can't have rapids in RTCP. I'm doing a cone test cut (Swarf 5x) on a 5x SNK milling with Fanuc 31i-A5 control. I'm also using G05.1. Any onput would greatly be appreciated. Have a good day! Simon
  4. Hi does anyone know what is the meaning of G05.1 Q? (in the book it says nano smoothing interpolation) and can't seem to find M14. Thanks in advance! Simon
  5. Many Okumas here and in the g83, we're outputting I and J's in G17. Let's say I=0.05 J=0.200, it would chip break every 0.05 and do a full retract every 4 chip break. Is your Z2. value higher then your drilling depth? And last thing, here I put my m53 on the same line then G71. Feel free to e-mail me. I did'nt have time right now to put it in a machine and see but tomorrow, will give it a try.HTH! Simon
  6. Machining quite a bit of titanium here and none of the tool company ever offered me a high feed cutter to test. I would doubt on the tool life. They must be about to come up with something. So far variable helix or double variable helix end mills works very good for me in roughing (slotting, pocketing, etc...).HTH! Simon
  7. Following my filter and 5x problem (gouge) from last week, does anyone uses Fanuc control and filter 5x? If so, does it output a G68 to be able to filter? Still investigating with ICAM on my gouge. Thanks in advance! Simon
  8. Thanks for your interests here, the situation is that we just got new machines, started posting through ICAM (wich I'm new to) and bought Vericut but have'nt got training yet so I tought the "arc fitting" in ICAM was the problem because if I don't activate it, no problem. If I do, I get all kind of weird moves. There's no problem with my toolpaths at all. I'm waiting for the guys at ICAM to look into the post. MCAM posts, I had control on my stuff but ICAM is a complete other game... Thanks again guys and I'll keep you posted! Simon teh... explain this to the managment now...
  9. I'm in here since about 3 years on a regular basis but never really posted but here I am today. We bought a new 5x milling machine (2 months ago) and I had always heard not to use filter in 5x but tought I could when in positionning but today, as I was doing a surface finish project...surprise... Gouged a part that was on the machine for about 50 hours! So I hope I can avoid anything similar to someone else because believe me it feels really bad. Remember...NO FILTER IN 5X. Simon
  10. You don't have to use m4, in the thread milling 2nd page, it'll ask you if it's a rh or lh thread and yes feed and rpm are independent (you can also hit feed hold during operation). If you want more theorical informations, you'll find it in most tools catalog (sandvik, kennametal...). HTH!3 Jean-Simon
  11. I do this type of material regularly. I had good results with sandvik 390 2" 7 inserts (11mm) and also variable helix end mills from Guhring serie 3114 or Destiny raptor dvh(double variable helix). I run around 120-130 sfm with 0.003/tooth to get a decent tool life. HTH! Simon
  12. +1 Mowens, I keep tolerance under .001 on diametre and position with self centering 140 degrees carbide drill (guhring, ptd, sandvik). The only problem is the depth if you don't have coolant through and tight tolerance you might have some steps when pecking. BTW I drilled 0.250±.001 on a 10000$ blank. HTH! Simon
  13. I understand your concerns, being used to MC posts, ICAM is so different. We just went through what you're describing here and I still post from MC for 3 and 4 axis but for 5x we're posting through ICAM and so far everything comes out perfect. Now I need to convert myself to Catia... Lucky you "we have a post guy here, that's all he does" I wear this hat too... Simon
