  1. Sorry, I'm running MPHaas post, V9. I've snooped around in the post a bit, and looks like I've got it configured to output g54,55,etc. What's frustruating is that it does put out the desired offset when there is no translation taking place..but as soon as I translate, goes back to g54
  2. Howdy all, Having some issues with toolpath-trasform -translate.... I have my source operations all set to use a certain fixture offset (#5 = g59), when I transform the toolpath, it posts with the default fixture offset, g54 .... I have "posting disabled on source operations", which has never done this before and should not change my source ops regardless! If I go back and turn posting back on for those source operations, and post them individually (without translate), I get my g59 back! I have tried this exact same procedure at my school's machines, and it works just fine there. Posts my source ops fixture offsets in the toolpath transformations post...
  3. As soon as I bring an IGES (or import anything with surfaces, for that matter) into mastercam, I convert it into a solid..SOLIDS - NEXT MENU - FROM SURFACES. It makes selecting some geometry for toolpaths a lot easier, and working with the part in general. I've found that it will see things in solids as a curve more readily (g02/g03), better than wireframe's splines and such...worth a try to see what happens...? my 2 cents.
  4. Ok, so what is a step up from the Haas, but not quite the financial impact of a Mori? A used Mori is barely in the ballpark of a new Haas. You can call Haas, land one on the floor in a few days, and run parts immediatly. Were a small shop, and are skeptical about dealing with a used machine and messing with "debugging" or catching up on maintainance that may or may not have taken place..Anyone have any experience with the cincinatti's? Don't get me wrong, I'm not a big Haas fan, but they sure are convienient..
  5. I'm running the ti 4200 with 128meg of DDR, and have absolutly no complaints. I'm not sure what else I could ask for, especially for around $200!
  6. Yeah, check out this month's Modern Machine Shop...It has a pretty interesting article on "harmonics"....
  7. One comical story... A material supplier I used to frequent delt in heavy plate material (mild ,s.s., aluminum, and titanium). They also do alot of plasma cutting (capacity to 14"!!). A particular job for plasma cutting a **** load of parts out of 1 1/2" mild steel (a36) plate. The operator ran the job with was he though was A36 plate...I'm not sure who finally caught it, but all hell broke loose when they discovered he had ran the job with a 1 1/2" plate of titanium!!!
  8. For what it's worth, I've done some turning on 6al-4v, and found that SLOW speed and HIGH feed works well...speed kills (cutters). Also, I like to use coated inserts for roughing, and then switch to HSS with almost a burr/sharp edge for clean finish cuts with good surface finish.... just my 2 cents..
  9. Anybody out there running multiple monitors? My video card (gforce 4ti) and operating system (2000pro) both readily support multiple screens. I'm anxious to give it a try, and was just curious as to people's experience with mcam.... benifits, drawbacks, headaches, etc? thx.
  10. I'm running the INVIDIA GeForce 4Ti 4200. It is the cheapest of the 4200,4400,4600 series, but still has 128mb of RAM. I think I paid about 200$ or so. It runs absolutly flawlessly with 3d, solids, etc. I'm not really sure what else I could ask for! Also running a 2.4 p4, with 1 gig of ddr. Intel 845 motherboard. Hope those suggestions help!
  11. quote: Lighten up, we're educating(and being educated as the case may be) here. Thanks James, I'd like to think that most of us in this forum enjoy sharing our experiences and knowledge...after all, the essence of a "forum" is to open topics for discussion and disemination of information. Our collective trials, errors, and curiousities all make for enlightenment and progess in our field which would be difficult at best without the sometimes needed help, advise, or pure discussion provided by a forum. P.S. Thanks for the great RAID diagrams!
  12. Problem Solved!!! It was the Masking..all were off. I could have sworn I checked that, but I guess not. Thanks everyone, I REALLY appreciate it.
  13. Here is an interesting link on using windows 2000 to simulate a RAID controller... http://www4.tomshardware.com/howto/20010906/index.html
  14. Yup, the program was made in Pro/e..and sent to me zipped. I unzipped with both Winzip and Archiver and I tried to open it with Mastercam. What does'nt make sense to me is why it opens on another Mastercam workstation, but not mine...same exact file! I can open it on the other Mastercam computer and then save it on mine. If it was screwed up by Pro/E, I would think that we would'nt be able to open it at all by Mastercam...Why does it open on one machine and not another? thx
  15. I'm have a strange issue with importing an IGES file...file_converters_IGES_read file will act like it has imported a file, but there is nothing on the screen. The little "processing" dialog activates at the bottom toolbar, showing that something is happening, but nothing appears on screen. If I scan the file before opening, it does give me a list of the entities, however after opening it, screen_statistics says that there are no entities in MC9! More frustruating is that the file opens just fine on another workstation. Yes, I can save it to a disk there, and then open it on my computer, or send it across the network. I have opened other IGES files just fine in the past on my rig.. thx
  16. Is anyone running RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Drives) on their computers? Raid level 0 generally allows hard drive access at twice conventional speeds... Is Mastercam dependent enough on hardrive access to warrant a RAID setup, or do we just keep stacking up the RAM? Although another benefit of other RAID configurations (1-5) are the redundant hardrives in the event of a hard drive failure...
  17. We are running the Haas mini-mill here, and were seriously considering the Milltronics...Decided to go with the Haas for a few reasons. Easy financing through Haas Automation, widespread service and availability of parts, and the things are dam cheap. 30K+. Tech support/service is generally good. However the control is mid 1980's technology, my 99$ cell phone has a better screen and alot more memory! The operator interface/ergonomics leave alot to be desired, too. Machine could use a bit more rigidity, too. Once you get used to these issues and remember how little you paid for the thing, the Haas is a pretty good choice.
  18. We've got a mini-mill (same controller as all Haas machines), and started using the haas post that came with v9...it needed a bit of tweeking because it gave an A axis output which our machine did not like. otherwise works ok, though.
