  1. Hello all, Just got a new workstation - Lenovo P51 running latest Windows 10, 16gb ram, Xeon processor. I've installed MCam 2017 on it (yes, I'm still stuck in the dark ages) and it refuses to start correctly. The program opens, but it says "initializing menus" and that's all. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, running in compatibility mode and everything else, and still no luck. Has anybody else had this issue? Any ideas on what i've got going wrong here? I've uploaded a screenshot to show what I'm seeing. Thanks in advance. MCam screenshot.docx
  2. Hello, We are looking at purchasing a router for the purpose of machining MDF doors; the components are made up of 1/2" and 1/4" MDF. The same machine would be utilized for routing veneer edging panels. The sheet size would be up to 5'x10'. Any recommendations on brand, configuration, etc. would be appreciated. We are also trying to decide between purchasing new and used, and are not fixed on any manufacturer - the key thing for us is long term reliability of the machine, and prompt service. Some brands we have looked at are: Biesse Homag/Weeke Felder Komo Thermwood Any notes on experiences with service, programming, and reliability on these or any other machines would be very much appreciated. Thank you!
  3. Thanks very much! I had some spare time over the holidays, and managed to get this done...one XY coordinate at a time, but it worked in the end. Thank you all for your time and input!
  4. He didnt' seem to be able to export as a .dxf...maybe he isn't using AI after all. BTW, what does this error mean? "The resource file was not set up." I click OK, then get "The resource file was not set up. Conversion process failed." Click OK again, then I have a blank screen in front of me. Is this something wrong with the file itself, or is it something that I have set wrong in Mastercam? I'm still feeling my way around with all of the advanced features, and am not sure what I happen to be doing wrong. The picture is just a corporate logo that I want to be able to import into MCX and then trace to give me the needed vectors and arcs (Management doesn't want to spend any more many than it has to on programming software ) so that I can toolpath it. If anybody has any idea what these errors mean, and what I can do to get around them, I would really appreciate it.
  5. Hockey Guy, Thanks for the offer...unfortunately, I'm not allowed to share this file as the owner of it needs it to stay confidential. I think at this point I will just pull it into another CAD program of mine that can import JPEGs and trace over it manually...time consuming and not too accurate, but once in Mastercam I can clean it up. Thank you again for your offer!
  6. Hey, I'm trying to import a picture into Mastercam...it was a .JPEG originally, would have been simple with Ras2Vec, but we are stuck on Entry ... A friend of mine ran the file through Adobe Illustrator and exported the picture as both an .eps and an .ai file. Mastercam says it can import the files, but when I go to bring them in, it gives me an error saying "Selected File Could Not Be Converted. Conversion Process Failed." Could anybody give me some advice on this? I'm kind of stumped! Thanks in advance!
  7. Thanks very much! I hadn't thought of that ( ). Sounds perfectly workable and simple to boot. I guess sometimes the simplest solutions are the ones it takes three weeks to "find"!
  8. I'm running the older NC1000 controls; our machine is a 2002. It's still not too bad to do parametric programming on, although I imagine that it is a little more cumbersome than the new BIESSEWORKS controls. Maybe I'm just looking too far for an easier solution...sometimes they end up just getting more complex!
  9. I've looked at it briefly, but haven't experimented with it yet...definitely the classic "newbie". By the way, I looked through the help topics, and I think that I have figured out hwat you were driving at before. I've done up an Excel spreadsheet with different forumulas to get the result I need, then used the Door Chook to bring them into Mastercam and it worked - just have to figure out a method of making it chain them and post the individual G-Code too, if there is such a thing! Can you give me any tips with ATP? Everything that I have looked up on it seems pretty complex and intimidating - kind of over my head, especially with almost nil experience yet. Thanks very much!
  10. I've never done Vb programming - I guess I was hoping for a faster solution. I'm done the project I started the post for, but I do a lot of stuff like it where a customer wants a bunch of different door sizes, all with a custom hinge pocket or door handle cutout. Where could I get some more info on getting started with this? I'd rather not have to do a separate drawing for each individual part, as it is actually faster to sit down at the machine and manually create the program when there are multiple sizes - this seems kind of a shame when Mastercam is sitting upstairs in the cool office!
  11. Hello, I'm using Mastercam X5 and am trying to make a parametric program with variable X and Y parameters to put a door hinge pocket in the exact center of a workpiece while maintaining a constant distance from the edge of the workpiece. How can I set this up in Mastercam? I have approximately 17 different sizes that I need and don't want to have to reprogram each one. I am running a Biesse router. Thanks very much.
