  1. Nice...used to do this sort of thing a lot with large Ti hog-outs (mills) to control the heat build up on the insert edge. Never had much need for ceramics in Inconel but we tried them in some Incoloy which was just eating our carbide for breakfast. Turned a 45 min roughing nightmare into a 5 minute cakewalk. Pretty exciting the first part through, too...
  2. Have you got the documentation from the Tech Exchange? It details all the XML tags (each field has one) and then how they are bound together to give the desired output in the report. Also covers formatting. You want to do a few different things so probably worth taking the time...
  3. Have you created tools AND holders in the tool manager for each tool?
  4. You will be just as well doing a zip2go with the working X9 file. In fact that might be easier in that there is no reason a properly editted post should not update. Do you get error messages when you use the X9 post, even though it completes the posting process?
  5. Given the fact that you have altered the post, nobody will be able to help you unless you post a copy of the altered post....
  6. I think analyze chain shows overlaps too, doesn't it? Doesn't delete them tho'...
  7. Yep, I remember my reseller contacted me last year and warned me that if I wanted to download X3(?) I would be able to upgrade V7 files....last chance....still might be easier to get a copy of X3.
  8. I think you can upgrade V9 files from X5 or X6 (I could be wrong but I seem to remember upgrading a load of V9 files when I first came here and I think we were on X5 or X6). You might still be able to download those from CNC. Problem might be loading out of sequence, that is if you are loading over a newer version . If you have an old laptop you can use for this purpose it might save some trouble, and it doesn't have to be terribly powerful just to do file updates.
  9. This has been documented a number of times and depends on the machine maker. If your machine lube is driven by the distanced moved rather than time you could be in trouble in relatively short order. Some machine sellers have refused (or put up a fight) to fix it under warranty.
  10. Most , if not all, of the full engineering systems have modules for various engineering categories (see Thad's example above). These tend to be very expensive so they try and break them up to keep the price somewhat under control.
  11. Mastercam is considered a CAM package with some CAD facility. You require full CAD/CAM with full engineering package. Solidworks, Catia, Siemens UX etc....
  12. You would need a B axis head to do that. You might be able to drill the angle through the finished face hole using a Mikron crazy drill cross pilot, but I would need to see a model of the feature to be sure.
  13. Mikron (and Sphinx) are some of the best drills for difficult situations. Up to 9 diameters you don't need a flat or a spot drill even on a tube as long as you are not too far off center, for off center they have the crazy drill cross pilot. We do wirelock holes across the corners on hexes, Mikron crazy drill cross pilot will pilot on almost any slope or radius (the video on the website is outrageous) followed by a 12D drill using a deep hole drill cycle and done. We do this on wire lock holes from 0.047 - .090 in 15-5. They do chamfer/drills too. If we are drilling right through the tube in aluminum we use Guhring 5518 series, no need for a flat or spot drill here either. Limited diameter range though.
  14. Mastercam is no where near as stock aware as NX, so you will need to keep yourself out of trouble, the system won't do it for you.
  15. machines can be installed and set up many ways, so this allows you to reflect this in your machine control. We have 2 Mori Seiki 4 axis mills. One is set up with tool management, the other is not. They both use the same machine def but different posts to give the correct output.
  16. Typically null tool changes are handled by ptichg0$
  17. Have you altered the post? Are you sure this isn't a "special character"?
  18. Another option is to enable the full retract on rotation switch in the header. We ran all our small quick 15K - to 20K machines this way, the time cost was minimal and the safety was bullet proof. Doesn't suit all machines.
  19. Conract your reseller. This happens to me at work and home, my reseller provides me with a magic code for each (the generated code at the site never works for me).
  20. You might be creating duplicate entities. Mastercam has a tendency to do this. You can easily deal with them using the "delete duplicates" button. Analyze chain will also check for duplicates.
  21. That's the advantage to keeping maintenance up to date. Almost all third party purchased posts come with some sort of encryption. This makes managing the file easier for the post editor. Imagine if you sold someone an "open" post, they go in and try and "fix" something, they make a mess of it and then send it back to you and ask you to fix the mess. It has happened to many times to mention, and so people protect themselves and their work.
  22. You have an undefined situation (variable?) on line 2445 of the post, or in the post block which begins on line 2445.
  23. Ti is pretty tough so you might need to leave a little more stock than with say 15-5 to make sure you get a good chip. Depending how big an insert and bar you can cram in there I wouldn't hesitate to start at .01 stock (per side) and check the results. What quality Ti do they lumber you with? That can make a difference too.
  24. I am using 2 descriptions in the available fields on the holder page. One is the Manufacturers code, the other is a generic description calling out the gage length and the diameter in some form: 3.0 GL- D 1.25 4.0 GL- ER20 6.0 GL-RD 0.75 RD indicates reduced (tapered) diameter, dimension is for nose. This aids the machinist in identifying alternates. We have just started implementing this, so far so good, but time will tell.
