  1. Yeah, it uses your HSMAdvisor license. The cHook itself comes at no additional cost. Thank you for support, guys!
  2. Hi guys, Just wanted to let you know that HSMAdvisor Speed and Feed Hook is now available for both MasterCAM x9 and 2017 now! A lot of improvements were made specially to cater to CAM guys. Like the ability to save and quickly load Tools and Cuts or the new tree on "Load Tool" dialog that sorts cutting parameters according to the toolpath, tool type, coating etc. I also added some cuts from Rizzo's Dynamic Database to HSMadvisor's Cut Cloud. Any feedback is greatly appreciated! http://hsmadvisor.com/?page=HSMAdvisor_for_MasterCAM Question for all users here: do you think it will be useful to be able to upload complete CAM toolpaths to the cloud, so they can easily be shared with your pals?
  3. But my calc does calculate that! In results area it shows the Torque on tool. If one had information with max holding power for their holder, he could use it to determine if pullout / slippage could be an issue. Generally I notice that setting Torque Limit to 100% in HSMAdvisor completely eliminates slipping for properly tightened ER 32 holders.
  4. +1 on setting it up as a bullnose endmill. Also because the last wall pass in the issue you can set up a finishing pass at lower feedrate.
  5. Machine all half-way down out of a plate. Can leave tabs too. Cut on a bandsaw and machine back of each in vise + clean up the tabs if any.
  6. The MC 2017 has been out for a few month now and because it has received quite mixed reviews from the machinist's community, i decided to release one more big update to our MCx9 hook before starting to fully work on adapting it for MC 2017. Here is a youtube video showcasing most of the improvements: https://youtu.be/s6I3_I9cmQo What is new and improved in this HSMAdvisor update New Hardened D2 and M2 Steels New 17-4 and 13-8 Stainless Steels in various conditions Plunge Speed Lock New Free GD&T Reference Tab Updated Look and functionality of Scientific Calculator Updated look of all Geometry Calculators. Improved Toolpath import and export New Improved Select Tool/Cut Dialog with Side Contents Tree Plunge RPM lock for toolpaths, that do not support Plunge RPM different from the main RPM Ability to choose which data is read and written into the toolpath. Full ToolDB Functionality including editing and saving tools is now free. As usual Here you can download the latest updates: http://hsmadvisor.com/?page=HSMAdvisor_for_MasterCAM
  7. Speeds and feeds at 100% on HSMAdvisor are considered uber-safe conservative. 150% on speed and feed will move you close to what many manufacturers suggest.
  8. Civicegg, That would be cool. Please send me your tools to [email protected] You can use Tool Database->Actions->Export command to get the file. I will look into it. Perhaps one of us is missing something. Thank you.
  9. It is dependent on the tool manufacturer, of course, but 100% feed rate in HSMAdvisor is considered moderate and at 150% you get into what most manufacturers would suggest. Here i am going at 170% and even at 100 i surpassed what was recommended as starting parameters: Just to help me out, In what way do you say manufacturer's number are better?
  10. Part of the reason could be that MasterCAM does not digitally sign their software (Gee, what's up with that, even I sign my software), thus it is impossible to verify it has come from them and has not been modified by a North Korean spy agency. And your IT policy probably specifically says about installing "software from unverified sources" being a big NO-NO. I am sure MC has reasons for not signing (one of them being that it is so prolific) but for small guys like me signing helps to get by bureaucratic IT hassles.
  11. Tell me about it! I wish i realized just how much was missing. To get access to all operations i ended up "simply" mapping the whole c++ Operation{} structure and exposing it to .net world through interop.... now i am happy: i can get all the power of c-hook in a net hook:)
  12. Thank you, guys! Yes, i have made FSWizard phone app available for all my HSMAdvisor customers as well recentely. In fact I want to create a HSMAdvisor for phone version that can share not only the license, but machines, tool libraries and other bells and whistles. Right now busy with the MC hook project, but some time next year I may roll it out. Keep tuned in. Cheers and have a Happy New Year!
  13. I tried Helical calc. Their latest design SEEMS to have borrowed a lot from my FSWizard/ early HSMAdvisor layout and functionalty. Either way I believe my HSMAdvisor has way better optimization for depth/width of cut amongst other things. If you find anything, that helical is better at, though, let me know.
  14. Instead of hacking with ramp angle just create a hole geometry slightly larger than your endmill and chain it as your "air region" Much safer and makes shure you dont straight plunge where you do not want to
  15. ^ of cource it does. There is a "Performance Slider" that roughly represents Tormach at minimal position to "50 taper Okuma superstout" at maximum. No. There is no "i am holding this thing by 1/16" on a Chinese vise, bolted to table by one screw" button....yet:)
  16. Not trying to plug my own product here.... But I am developing a low-cost solution for small shops that would work from within my HSMAdvisor Speed and Feed calc: http://zero-divide.net/index.php?shell_id=151&article_id=4777&at=tool-inventory-advisor-workfloow-overview Basic functions would be: 1) Multiple data entry points. One location to keep all the data. 1) Alerting users of inventory changes. (Inventory changes made on one computer are visible to other computers) 2) Adding tools to Order Request 3) Generating and Exporting Order Request forms 4) Restocking requested tools when they are delivered. I am planing to make it talk to MC too through HSMAdvisor hook that I am also developing now. Quite a but more functionality is in the pipeline. I was just wondering what small shops would need and how better to cater to those needs.... If this sounds like someone could use it, this is the chance to get exactly what you need and get it for free (companies/individuals who collaborate during development get stuff for free) Really open to any crazy ideas now. Would be thankful for feedback.
  17. It is still a work in progress. There are bugs to weed out and things to improve on. Initially i did not realize the scope of work i would have to do. But i am getting there!
  18. Saw a video somewhere. They used a spindle with constantly varying RPM to achieve that. I think it peformed worse than the variable helix / staggered flute endmills. IMO it just can not change RPM that fast to simulate the staggered flutes.
  19. I was my mistake (surprise?) I set compile config to release, but it was still doing it in debug mode. Once i properly set the release mode it worked. checked it on a clean W8 system. The fixed installer is now available here-> http://hsmadvisor.com/?page=HSMAdvisor_for_MasterCAM Thank you, everybody. Now that the teething problems are over, more goodies to come!
  20. I thought it was related to .net But I get the same System.Reflection.MethodInvoke error at my work computer. I think HighSpeedInterop.dll is throwing the error when it tries to read toolpath data. I can not replicate the problem at my home PC...
  21. Just tried it on a clean system. You need to install .NET 4.0 from Microsoft.com
  22. I have no idea what's causing it. Works just fine on all of my computers. Just changed the installer program, removed digital signing and re-uploaded it to the server http://hsmadvisor.com/index.php?page=HSMAdvisor_for_MasterCAM Please check it out now. PS: Looks like digital signing may sometimes cause problems. Wonder if this is the case.
  23. This one looks like antivirus blocking it. Kaspersky is known to do that.
