  3. Just noticed something. If I change coolant settings (from flood to thru spindle for instance) and repost , the change does not take effect.... I have to regen the operation and then post again. Never had this problem in X7. X8 bug??
  4. This may sound counter-intuitive but put as many flutes into the cut as possible....just leave .001-.002 on the walls and hit it with a 7 fluter. Odd number of flutes tend to have better harmonics. Variable helix is also a good option.
  5. Are you sure that your stock model is correct? If you accidentally create it in the wrong plane the orientation will be off...I've done that before.

  7. Chip clearance is the only real issue. Select an endmill with a good primary radial relief angle and secondary clearance angle...otherwise you will end up with pretty severe built up edge. I also agree with everyone else, ONLY USE IN ALUMINUM (or other free cutting materials). I wouldn't mind testing it in ferrous material but I can't imagine it adding any great benefit.

  10. Yeah. You can't let Youtube automatically filter and correct your upload....otherwise you can see the result.
  11. Seems pretty standard to me. Almost all the major players have one (Kennametal, Sandvik, Seco, Iscar.......) Talk to your local rep.
  12. I wouldn't even consider doing it unless you have scales on each axis...and a machine that is straight (laser verified). In addition I would only use a string gauge probe (OMP600 or equivlant) and never cut another chip on the machine. I've done testing and shown better repeatability on the machine (Mazak Variaxis) than an offline Zeiss CMM (using gage R&R study). It is possible to do....the hardest part is convincing a customer that it is an accurate inspection method.

  15. I would love to see how you arrived at 1.57x. You did take into account all the force vectors and bending moments? ....Oh wait, of course you did. You're not the type of person to just spout random #%$*...... Administrators: Why is this person's account still open?
  16. The solution was to go back one driver version. I check for new drivers every week. Avoid 333.11 if you have an Nvidia 4000M.
  17. Coremill=outside to inside You need to use dynamic area mill. or take a look at optirest and forget all the other dynamic toolpaths. See attached file.... Create a stock model from your stock (either select a solid or use the stock definition), Optirest, select the solid as your drive surface, use the stock model as your previous operation. Since your part has vertical walls all you need to do is give it a large step down (as large as your flute length will allow) and any value for the stepup. It will ignore the stepup value since your walls are vertical but it will stop at the next surface that is not vertical (the floors of all the cutouts). Much easier toolpath than Coremill and Areamill. Very flexible. Hope this helps. CORE X7.MCX-7

  19. I would Optirest the #@%& out of that. 1. Make a stock model from the solid 2. Create a containment boundary 3. Optirest and select the stock model as the previous operation. 4. Watch the chips fly. I might have missed a few of the finer details but you get the point.
  20. Good call. That fixed it. I must have been making my graphics card dizzy.

I can take a complex model in solidworks and spin it around like a top using my 3D mouse....I can make an assembly in solidworks consisting of 50 of the same complex parts and spin it like a top. If I open a less complex model in Mastercam and lightly brush my hand against my mouse it crashes my graphics driver...... Any thoughts? Maybe I should roll back my driver to an older version? Running X7 MU2 SP1 Graphics card: Nvidia 4000M Driver: 333.11 *Update*: Now I can't even launch Mastercam without crashing the graphics....even after reboot
