Ahoy!
We have a largeish MCM20 with 5 sided head. At the moment the machine is not picking up the tool offset on side work and the operators are using individual work offsets for each tool on side operations. Apparently the machine used to work as advertised, but now doesn't.
Anyone familiar with these machines?
cheers
Bruce
Matt,
I did post some actual speeds and feeds from a job ages ago, but can't find it. From memory I used Iscar ADKT 15 inserts with a 2mm corner, garr 830RA with same corner, and used similar speeds and feeds to duplex 2205. There was some drilling also, but can't remember that far back.

Bearing will go in no time if you push it. From memory Big Daishowa do a high speed model rated to 10k. Not sure of the taper, but they can do specials for a BIG price.

LOL, awaiting the inevitable "I get paid to make toolpaths not look at pretty pictures" from a Mastercam fanboi. I was thinking the same thing.
Just because joan wanquer thinks it is a good idea, doesn't mean HOOPS is a bad idea. MC graphics are not only embarrassing, they are/were very hard to work with.

It gives me a great sense of job security knowing that there are shops out there making decisions like this. I'm sure your materials suppliers will be very happy. Good luck. +1000
Prior to having a good 3d CAM system centre comp was acceptable. Nowadays.................

Does anyone have a copy of this spec that they could send me, or a site that has the data without needing to buy a standards book?
I have a small job to chase up and it isn't worth actually buying the spec.
thanks

Try writting an old fashion macro That's what I would do. If it was only a rad on the edge of a simple shape, then it would not be too hard.

Mastercam certainly has issues with Multi-axis path and not rotating around a "system" axis.
I don't think I have ever had any dramas using 5ax on different ops of the same job using WCS.
What sort of issues do you mean?

Mistakes happen and unfortunately the company needs to wear it. If it reaches a point where you think otherwise, then it is time for that employee to be shown the door, not given an invoice.

Ahoy!
I am spending the next few months at a place that is all Haas (GROAN ) and some of them have a renishaw probe installed. I have had a play and have no problem using it for work offsets etc, but would like to be able to do some in cycle measurement and tool diameter/length adjustments.
Eg, I have a bore that is 50mm +/- 0.005mm and am using a 16mm EM to interpolate it using control comp. I would like to take a pass, probe the bore, send the size to a variable, calculate the offset change necessary, if any, and then recut and re-measure until the size is in limit.
Does anyone have an example of how to send the probed value to a variable in a programme?
BTW, not using MC for this.
Any help appreciated.

1/2 the speed and twice the feed as a similar size drill. +1 I can never understand why some people treat a reamer like a boring bar.
As for size issues I have sometimes found that not leaving enough material for the reamer will produce an oversized hole. If I have dialed in the reamer and the drilled hole is straight and true and I am still getting an oversized hole I will reduce the drill size slightly.

Ahoy,
I need someone to quote some long slender pins for me. Material is 1/8"diameter x about 3.5" long with a reduced diameter turned on the end. Parts then need HT. Think something like an ejector pin, but without the high tol grinding op. Batches of 1000.
Email me through my profile.
thanks

Ok, some more info. I have had a stack of people email me assuming I need these parts machined. Apologies if my description wasn't clear.
Here's what I am after:
* Someone to make a die/tool for a high pressure die casting machine.
* Someone to cast them in batches of 1000 from aluminium.
This is a project that probably won't have a "go" date for another few months. There may also be scope for some small pressed steel components as well as assembly so I may as well get the whole lot out there.
As well as the die casting above anyone who makes tooling for punching out and forming small parts from sheet steel could drop me a line also.
thanks
