  1. Ahoy! I am looking at Alibre CAD for my home business and since I no longer have access to MC was thinking that Alibre CAM might also be a good idea given the cost. Anyone here ever used it? Bruce
  2. The problem is not the fact that there are bugs, just the way in which they are addressed. My opinion is that prior to maintenance the bugs were higher up the list of priorities because otherwise they would never be able to sell the next release. Now with maintenance the next release is "sold" whether the customer likes it or not. As a result it now seems that the bugs have dropped down the priority list and the new features have moved up a couple of pegs. With what looks like a lot of contracted 3rd party content included I am not sure how CNC can put a harness on this problem. Bugs need to be addressed with FREE patches monthly, weekly, daily or even hourly if that is what it takes to put this growing problem to rest. I say growing problem because I think it is something that is going to snowball and start to cause major loss of revenue if not addressed. Bruce
  3. Do a google search for technigrip. Bruce
  4. Dave, I would probably use the existing ops for the old programmes and hash it up into something completely new. Having dynamic compensation will change the way you go about things, so take advantage of it from the start. IMO Bruce
  5. I knew as soon as HOOPS was mentioned that a troll would pop out of the woodwork.
  6. Might need an example, but if the vane walls aren't straight, then you will need to probably step down the walls with a ballnose using advanced 5ax. Bruce
  7. Friends don't let friends do Vista
  8. Having been on the other side of the same problem before, there is nothing you can really do except programme from model and then check everything with a conversion. I never got around to trying it, but what about a scaled post? At the end of the day the numbers are just units. I thought once that I could just treat the inch measurements as MM and then have the post scale it up. Is this an option in reverse that anyone has tried? Bruce
  9. quote: quote:... I just did everything for my customer incremental... UNLESS ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY NECESSARY, this is EXACTLY how I do everything. So much easier if you need to move something around for some reason. And a good reason why dynamic fixture comp should be a standard feature on all 5ax machines. Bruce
  10. What do you have against h0m0sexual evil genius assistants?
  11. Just make sure you only rolltap materials within the correct ductile limits, otherwise the thread will be weak as xxxx. Bruce
  12. I would just put the shaft on a surface table and check the gap on each side with slips. Bruce
  13. Don't want to sound like an arse, but that is a practice that is not only dangerous, but with the right tools is not necessary. Bruce
  14. Eric, I think I get what you were doing so I combined both ops into a single toolpath that does it all. If I didn't understand right, just let me know. Bruce
  15. I usually use Garr for solid carbide, but don't do much that hardness. Give your tool rep a call would be the best bet. Bruce
  16. Eric, A bit busy, but I can probably have a look an about an hour. Any chance you could send the file to: brucecaulley (at) hotmail (dot) com
  17. quote: We recently took possession of a Haas SL-20 lathe My condolences. Bruce
  18. Gunther, any chance of getting the "Grouped" button back in rename NCI? Bruce
