  1. ya, I can do that but is there a way to keep it on so you dont have to do it everytime?
  2. I've been trying everything, looking in machine definition, control definition. I know you can change default toolpath settings with no part in the graphics window, but that doesnt work for the tool settings. Pretty sure I had it always on in older mastercams, running 2023 meow.
  3. ya husker, i wanna throw this into my computer tomorrow and see what it posts.
  4. thats my question, it doesnt cost crazy amounts of money to put an extra 16 gigs into the computer.
  5. i messed up, meant to say 32 gigs, but when i asked them they said you get paid by the hour, so what do you care. of course a week or so later, theyre gonna be asking why parts are taking so long. you just cant win.:)
  6. your linking parameters page is the problem. you must be fairly new to mastercam, which is fine. but you should look at the lines going to the part in the linking parameters page. Top of stock, and Depth are ok, Feed plane as far as ive used is always in incremental, a bit above the top of stock. you should be using Clearance anything above the top of stock, Retract isnt required.
  7. Wow you are spoiled :), im in need of a new system at work, im begging them to put 16 gigs of memory into it, but they dont want to spend that HUGE amount of money.
  8. This is interesting to me, our shop has 3 wire edms, running wire mastercam. and hes retired, so he shows up whenever he wants to. Might be a good idea to ask if they would teach me the machines. Like crazy^millman said, the mastercaming should be easy, the setup and the control will be the problem. My guy i think would not have a problem teaching me, if your guy does, i think that would be the biggest problem. Cant really learn a machine without actually being on the machine.
  9. Just a question about the machine for anyone. an OKUMA mu-500 5-axis. they only run one home for everything. Co1 i guess, then when its tilting it switches to Co51. It has 100 homes in it, so it should be able to run that many different homes at once or not? we were running a fixture with four parts, they placed them in mastercam where they were on the fixture, im used to running each piece using a different home. just wondering if it is possible, or maybe not setup to do that. since nobody can see the machine i know its just guessing a bit.
  10. moving the tilt seems easier just to put -90 into the a-axis. thats what weve done in the past. so then the back face becomes the top face. if im understanding correctly what youre saying. Init. Rotary Axis Position is that the one youre talking about, maybe tomorrow i will test it on the machine thanks again Aaron.
  11. ya Aaron, we got it all sorted out. it was the "Automatically set to Post defaults when posting" problem first toolpath had it checked the other ones didnt. gonna try to look more into the misc values. but can they work with an encripted post, what ive seen is you might have to edit the post a bit to make them work?
  12. we tried that on friday same thing happened. right just been running one toolpath at a time. im assuming this is whats going on crazy, but how do i get it to post back the proper way. all the misc integers were at zero and my buddy teaching me the machine said to never turn them on because it can easily crash the machine. the work co-ordinates was set to a 2 when i opened up the control definition. but changing it back to a zero didnt change anything.
  13. Been forever since ive been on here... trying to word this right Ive seen this happen before, you load a file from a different mastercam program, and it seems to overwrite the control definition( im thinking). I was doing some of the tutorials off this site not blaming it, but after that the post changed. running an okuma 5 axis, and after that the machine wouldnt go to the home position. G30 P2. the post is encripted, so im sure thats not the problem. a few months ago i loaded a program from my previous shop. same kinda thing happened, just that time it changed the rapid movements to the part into a G1 at 5000 ipm if i recall. whats going on?
  14. Gonna upload the modded file tonight.
  15. Just wondering on the legal side of things, one prototype, and they wouldnt allow you to have your phones around it in case you took a picture.
  16. Well, got a new job on an okuma 5-axis mill this week. I know jack about the machine, but they are willing to train. Today we were trying to get a smooth finish on a part with a ball on one end, first trying to use a dove-tail cutter but nothing was working right. A few people were scratching their heads on it. We were trying waterline, and raster. They both wouldnt do the undercut. In the end it was done using a ball endmill using raster but only one half at a time. It left a small step where the two halfs met. Just curious what tool should have been used and which toolpath, as i know nothing, this is just to show the guy training me how we should have done it, if another similar part comes up. Thanks Bit more info ball, was .250 +.002 Also, there will be more questions as i get more comfortable on the machine lol.
  17. if i were you id dump all the n$, except at a tool change, its easier to move through the program on a fadal.
  18. thanks leon82, helped me find out where the problem was. had to change the misc integer 1 to a 2 and began posting my pwcs perfectally. my post is back lol. still really have no idea what they are but thanks.
  19. haha, i like to use a lot of "#" at the beginning of those lines. theyre are just variables from mastercam. who actually changes the material lol. i could post my header mods ive made, rather novice if you ask me.
  20. that didnt work, i noticed, the parameters g90=0, g91=1 werent there. also g54=0, g55=1(im sure this is why my post wont post the work offsets) were also gone. is there a chance i loaded a different version? im tying to figure how to pull the teeth on this and get my original posting back as usual. also when i do a simple drill toolpath i can still edit the pecks. which was never an option before.
  21. So i reinstalled mastercam on my computer, copying the old shared mastercam folder. but my post isn't the same. it shows three G91 lines at the beginning, and won't output the work offset, it happened after opening a mastercam file from another computer, can it overwrite your post, machine definition or control definition? its a pita to manually edit the post every-time, i change something. i know where the lines are in the post, but i cant figure out what happened.
  22. haha, was totally guilty of this when learning to program, bugs me now as a programmer. my co-worker used to lock out the edit function and remove the key. good times.
  23. im gonna try this info colin, every time i get this job im always thinking "this has to be able to be done". wtf is a gap setting, i still dont fully understand it?
  24. I was messing around with trying to engrave onto the side of a part on a vertical. Could not figure out any way to do it without spending a lot of time manually programming it. Any advice from someone is greatly appreciated. I couldnt even find a tool to do it with, was looking for a ball nose with clearance.
  25. whenever i have had to do this i use multi-pass, just making sure the depth is less than the thread pitch so it doesnt ram into the shank. then just use bottom to top.
