  1. Hi everyone, I am curious how you pros describe your tooling. In particular what kind of acronyms or wording do you use for extended tools. For instance how would you describe a tool that needs a specific extension (ie DA300) with a certain amount of tool projection. It starts to get very verbose and confusing when you have to describe Length of Cut, "Stick Out" and specific holders and extensions. I'm sure LOC is pretty standard, I personally use EFH to stand for Extend(ed) from Holder. But again the problem arises when it's a specific holder with an extension that has to stick out a certain amount with a tool that sticks out of the extension and so on.
  2. Hello all, I am new to mastercam and have made custom tools on solidworks and am trying to import them into mastercam but am running into some issues. When I import the part into the custom import field as a step file the part looks nothing like it does when I open it in mastercam or solidworks. The tools I use are custom tooling special made so there are no files I can just download. Any help would be appreciated. What I made ---> What mastercam produced---> Thank you
  3. What is the best tooling advisor/calculator for Mastercam? Are there any that plug in as add ons?
  4. Good morning all, I need to define custom turning tools (internal face grooving) in MasterCAM X7. These are solid carbide tools that do not use inserts. I do not see an option where I can get the graphics from an MCX file as with custom milling tools. Am I missing something? Thanks for any help. Benz
  5. Hello, I have a major problem involving MasterCam and was hoping you guys could help me out. I work in a shop where the CNC operators both program tooling and run machines. They can do both separately and at the same time. The problem I am having is knowing how much time they are spending programming. Both while the machine is Idol and while the machine is running. I have software that monitors the machines but not the programming. There is a manual system in place where the operators keep track of their time spent on a job but the operators dont fill it out all the time which makes out data useless. It needs to be automatic. Do you guys know of any system out there that can track when the operators are programming while the machine is Idol and while its running automatically?
  6. Hey Guys, I'm looking to find a 1.0/.032 diameter indexable cutting tool to replace my standard 1.0/.032 APKT insert style cutter. The application is typically straight wall finishing or angled walls some 3D work, I want to keep the same tool geometry so I can just swap out the old tool and use the new tool and just change speeds and feeds. What tools are you guys using? Model number, maybe a link plz. Thx. Greg
  7. I would like some suggestions for a deep micro trepanning operation we need to do. It looks like a blind weld prep around a hole that is .101 +/- .001 dia. the small dia. of the prep (O.D.) is .141 +/- .001, the large dia. (I. D.) is .200 +/- .001. Here is the kicker, it goes .145 +/- .005 deep. There is a .010 radius on both corners at the bottom of the prep, and the .200 dia. needs a 32 finish or better. The material is Nickel 200. could anyone help me out with some advise on the best way the machine this and the best tools to use. Thanks

  9. Greetings! I'm looking for a bit of input. I've been working with ULTEM 1000 recently and have had some surface finish issues. All the tooling we are currently working with is carbide. I've read that HSS, and diamond tooling, produce a superior surface finish with this material. My employer is willing to purchase a limited amount of new tooling for this next project and I want to get the correct tools. So, here's my question. Would it be better for me to purchase HSS, or diamond tooling? Also, if you've worked with this material before, any tips on feeds and speeds would be appreciated. Looking forward to your thoughts.....and thank you in advance -BC

  11. Hey Guys, I use to use Walter brand indexable screw counterbore tools 1/4-3/4 SHCS. It looks like they don't make them anymore. What tools do you use? I was thinking of using Ingersoll Quad drills. TIA Greg
