  1. We have a 1052VII millac milling machine with a tsudakoma trunnion using C as rotary and A as, what i call the cradle. The "A" axis rotates about the "Y" axis, so it is sitting in our machine 90 degrees from normal. The post swamps the axis. We have been trying our best to run a full 5 axis program on our machine since day one, which was over a year ago. We bought a simulator to be sure our programs don't crash unexpectedly. we found out about 2 months ago the software that runs the trunnion is out of date. which like it is, makes the trunnion run slower. This was causing a problem using inverse time. We made the call to Okuma and they made a request to Okuma Japan for updated software, two months later and we now have updated our trunnion software. The part i was trying to program, before the trunnion problem, I resumed trying to program after the update. when we make a program and run the simulator, everything looks great. When i post the program and take it to the machine in starts 180 degrees different than the simulator shows. the way the program is now in the machine it will crash into the part, it's doing moves it doesn't show on the simulator. We have tested program after program from our reseller. The programs they send us test fine, so I am thinking i am missing a setting or something so it will stop the crazy motion it's doing. I would appreciate any help. I can send a file if i need to. it will have to be through dropbox. My email is [email protected] thanks for any help. JEff
  2. Thank you for reading, I'm struggling with this 5 axis curve tool axis control using HAAS Trunnion. The tool-path I'm using is Multi-axis Curve with tool axis control "Point". Using the point for tool control look okay, but the tool angles which makes a chamfered part edge. I also tried using lines parallel to the part edge for tool control, but the tool path was all over the place. I even tried using a drive surface near the parts center, but I failed to get and good results. The part matl is hydroformed 6061 at .063 thick. Could someone please see if you can get this to work and school me on what it is I'm not doing right. For all I know I could be using the wrong toolpath or this part cannot be multi-axis milled. The MCX-8 file is attached / backup link sheet_metal_curve_mcx8.zip -------------------------- The picture below shows the edge I want need to machine. -------------------------------- Extra view John
  3. I am thinking about getting one of these for our VM3. Does anyone have any experience with this product? http://www.trunniontable.com/
  4. Hello, I briefly would like to point out that I use the machining terminology of my shop which may be elementary to some. I have never posted a question in a forum before. Please feel free to correct me. At our shop we draw and or import our customers models at MC's origin adjusting for MRZP if needed and leave them there. We then program the part to totality from there using the WCS/View like anyone else. So, for example If my part is on a trunnion and requires the part to flip 180 about Y axis I simply make a WCS to cut the other side while the part stays put. This makes programming easy for me. One issue with this method is that when I out put files from my second op to Vericut or MC machine sim the models are upside down. Its not a big issue, but a innovative having make rotated models in MC or rotating them in Vericut. Its this method the normal or is there different way of handling this? Screen shot of one of my projects below.
  5. Happy New Year Everyone! I wanted to take a moment and let everyone know that I'm putting together a class for 5 Axis Post Processing. This first 5X Post class will be a "basic" introduction to 5X Post editing. http://www.eapprentice.net/shop/live-training/mastercam-mp-post-processors-5-axis/ In this class I'll be taking the Generic Fanuc 5X Mill Post, and configuring it for two different machine types; a trunnion style machine (table/table), and a gantry style machine (head/head). In addition to basic configuration, we'll be going over all the important post settings and learning how to control the post output using Misc values. We'll spend some time discussing Vector and Matrix math, and create our own (very simple) 5X Post Processor from scratch, so you can see how the vector and matrix functions work. Finally we'll spend some time looking at the processing of the Generic Fanuc 5X Mill Post, and examine which post blocks we can use to override output and add custom features to the post. This would include 5X Cutter Compensation, Dynamic Work Offset, High Speed Codes, ect. This course will be geared towards Mastercam users that already have some knowledge of post edititing. A suggested prerequisite would be my basic post course "MP101", or hands-on post editing experience. Like all Eapprentice courses, each class will be recorded and uploaded to the Eapprentice site so they are available to you forever as a reference. We'll also be holding "Office Hours" sessions that give you time to ask questions about your own post edits, and receive help and feedback from me during these live sessions. This class will be a great opportunity to learn advanced post techniques and understand how the Generic Fanuc 5X Mill post really works. Thanks and best regards, Colin Gilchrist
