Good Day,

Same idea as eric but you dont have to switch to metric.

OK here is what I do

 

Select the metric holes to drill and create an operation

create a tool - RH tap for M3 X .5

In the "threads" field type

1 /(divided) by (.5 Pitch * .03937)

like this:

1/.5*.03937 or

1/.5/25.4

hit enter to calculate

should = 50.8 TPI(thread per inch).

 

Put 3/25.4 in the diam. feild for 3MM diam.(.118).

If you want to see a tool comment, go to define tool parameters page and type M3 X .5

in the comment field

and set rpm to 1000 and the feed should be 19.685

.

and now you have created a .118-50.8 tap

now save it and you could create a library

of american metric taps.
