Is there a way to changed the geometry on a 35 deg. insert? Im doing face work on a mold with custom ground tools and would like to change a 35 deg. insert to 25 deg. in MC. Or am I going to have to select a differant tool and lie to it like I usualy do?

I have found the custom tool page, but I dont see where you can select or change a angle.

This is what I want but with a 25deg insert instead of 35deg

I have never used custom tool before, thought maybe someone could give some step by step.

you will need to draw the tool. Colors are important. I do this when I have a special ground tool or holder that I would like to see the clearances when back ploting. Now you can have the tool geo. by drawing it on a seperate level or in it's own file. I perfer the file makes it easyer to use the tool latter in other files.

Ok, Im getting a little closer. I have the tool drawn with the corect colors, in a seperate level, and saved it in the tool library. I have reselected the new tool regenerated it, and I dont see my tool or stock removed when I backplot it.

And in tool definition on the geometry page the "level" radio button is checked and you entered this level in the field next to the button?

The tool level is 110

Im back and I am still stuck, Still cant figure out why the tool doesnt show up on the backplot

You need to go thru you set up on a custom tool look at your help files. If you want send me your e-mail I can send you a couple of files that might help you.

I looked at your file.

 

I usually draw tools with the tip at 0,0.

 

Since your tool was drawn way out there I did it two ways.

 

First I reselected the Tool Insert Center using the "tool center" button.

 

 

Second I moved your tool so the point (intersection) was at 0,0 and left the center coordinates as they were (based on .015" radius).

 

Both ways backplot properly.

Ive been wanting to use custom tools for a while now. This forum is the best, I have learned more here than any book out there.
