Alternating Flank Threading

ref Cutting Tool Engineering dec 2008 page 40. I am threading a 718 Inconel shaft 2 1/2-8 thread. I would like to try using an alternating flank thread routine. Any help is appreciated.

Should just be a matter if either adding a code to the thread cycle, an m-code, or changing a parameter on the machine.

Are you threading on a lathe? If so, are you using the one-block G76 canned cycle? If yes, you have a choice of P1 through P4. One will do what you are asking for. If you are using a lathe and the cycle I mentioned, then I will look up which P value to use tomorrow at work. Lathes I normally program for use the 2-block call so I don't know off the top of my head which one to use.

You could also have Mastercam program it long hand with alternating flank wear.

 

Go to the "thread cut parameters" page, click in the box for "nc code format" and set it to "alternating". When posting out it will be longhand and alternating.

thank you, I am new to mastercam lathe. I will ask Todd to show it to me in training. I want the long hand method for mid program starts. Part is 2 1/2 diameter and 22" long. I will be changing alot of inserts.
