STL files

if i save a mastercam part as a STL ASCII file, does it take the part, section it with parallel planes, and store each section in the text file?

 

If so, what is the structure of the ASCII file? I cnnot make heads or tails just by inspection.

ASCII is basically point/endpoint data. STL is basically surface(s) interpreted as triangles (output as lines).
