New slot mill operation

Um, I'm missing something here. What's the difference between milling out a slot using the pocketing operation vs. the new slotting operation? Is in just the way the tool moves from one cut depth to the next?

Thanks! Actually, I visited a close freind of mine in Utah a few weeks ago, and we went mountain climbing (it had a different meaning in the Marine Corps...), but what you see in the background is Salt Lake City. I had a hard time getting on the plane back to New York.........

Slot mill is really cool. You can zig-zag down through the slot, ramp down, etc.

 

Come to think of it, you can probably set up pocket to do many of the same things; but you'd have to set a lot of switches to do it.

 

This function is a rather recent (and VERY SMART) move on CNC's part to build specific functions to do very specific things -rather than having one function try to do everything. (face it, a Swiss Army Knife is great, but the can opener is crap compared to my Swing Away).

 

Look at Mill facing and Lathe facing, cutoff, etc. This makes the software a lot easier to use, and functions a lot easier to find. Kudos to this approach to software design!!!!!!
