There are a number of educational related questions that surface frequently. This topic will serve to pool those questions and respective answers in one convenient place.

The FAQ will serve as a living document, open to additions from Forum Members. In an effort to keep this topic clean, it will be closed for posting - but feel free to leave your suggestions/additions here.

Some of the basics:

How do I update a HASP with new codes?

How do I install Mastercam with a NetHASP?

Q. How do I update a HASP with new codes?

A. Please follow these instructions to update your HASP:

**Make sure that you have received your codes by email before proceeding**

**Before installing the HASP, please read the documentation**

Relevant documentation can be found in the Mastercam installation guide (Pages 3-4) which can be found in the Mastercam X directory:

C:mcamxdocumentationMastercamXInstallationGuide.pdf.

  1. Ensure the serial number in the email attachment filename matches the serial number of your HASP.
  2. Make sure that you are updating the code on the computer that the HASP is plugged into.
  3. Double-click the email attachment. If the HASP updates automatically, you are done; do not proceed to step 4. Otherwise:
  4. Save the attachment to this email on to your computer (i.e. desktop)
  5. Open the Haspx.exe
  6. Select Update Code, and select the file from step 4.
  7. Once the file is selected, select Open.
  8. Then select Update.

Q. I get an error starting Mastercam, how can I resolve it?

A. Listed below are a few errors you may encounter and their resolutions:

[*]ERROR (L25, C:mcamxCHOOKS5axmsurf.ft): Unable to open resource module chooks5AxMSurf.dll

The file is missing or not up-to-date with the current version. This may happen when settings have been migrated from an older version.

Solution:

Delete C:mcamxCHOOKS5axmsurf.ft and run Repair from the Installation CD.

If the problem persists:

Install NetFrameWork 2.0 which can be found on the installation CD.

If the problem persists:

Recreate the mastercam.mtb file

  1. Rename the mastercam.mtb file to mastercam.mtb.old.
  2. Restart Mastercam. Once Mastercam is restarted, it will create a default.mtb file.
  3. Close Mastercam and rename the default.mtb file to mastercam.mtb.

If the problem still persists:

Uninstall / Reinstall

  1. Uninstall Mastercam.
  2. Delete the main Mastercam folder.
  3. Reboot the system.
  4. Reinstall Mastercam and DO NOTuse the migration option.

________________________________________________________

[*]ERROR (L259, c:mcamxconfigmastercam.mtb): Specified Command not found.

The function listed in the mastercam.mtb file at the specified line is not found. This may happen when settings have been migrated from an older version.

Solution:

Recreate the mastercam.mtb file

  1. Rename the mastercam.mtb file to mastercam.mtb.old.
  2. Restart Mastercam. Once Mastercam is restarted, it will create a default.mtb file.
  3. Close Mastercam and rename the default.mtb file to mastercam.mtb.

Q. What switches can I use to manipulate Mastercam's startup behavior?

A. There are a number of 'switches' one can use to manipulate the way Mastercam starts. For example: you can add the /M1 switch to limit Mill to level 1. If you have a NetHASP, adding the /V5 switch enables you to evaluate a Verify5Axis license upon startup.

For list of available startup switches, please download this PDF file.
