Converting CAD files but missing arcs?

Hi John, welcome to the forum.

DXF files frequently come into Mastercam as thousands of little short lines, no arcs or splines. This depends on what program the files came from or the settings used when translating.

If possible, use any translation other than DXF.

Can you tell us what program was used to make the drawing?

JohnP,

The problem may be with your source file. The Autodesk converter of DXF data does support arcs and now for V9, solids. Bertau is correct that even though DXF supports this type of data, it doesn't always come in cleanly. If you look under the File-Converters menu, you may be able to see another method for converting the file from the native CAD source. SolidWorks and SolidEdge files can be converted using the Parasolid converter. STEP and Pro-E are the only ones in V9 which require a license to convert their files. Fortunately, the Pro-E converter is half price until the end of the year. HTH biggrin.gif

RollformerBob,

Welcome to the forum. The DXF reader is supposed to read in polylines defined as arcs or fillets. Could you send us ([email protected]) a DXF file that fails?

All,

I think the problem with the original posting here is that CAD products can output DXF in so many different ways. I'd like to make sure that we see any problem files.

Thanks

PDG (if you send files to QC, you can cc: me at [email protected])
