Mastercam crashes when surfacing or finishing

I have had this happen in the past and the only thing I can tell you is that it usually occurs if there is something wrong with the surface (or solid) model. If it's a surface use the analyze function to check the surface geo. If it's a solid there are now some tools to verify a solid in V9. If you're not running V9, Creat a surface, from solid, then use the surface checking tools I mentioned to verify the geometry. One thing I do is to create a surface machining toolpath I set all of the parameters (stepover, filter, etc) very big and see what happens. If the software crashes it is almost always due to bad geometry. That is when you need to take a closer look at the model. I've actually had solid models (Parasolids) that imported and had "holes" in them. These were usually models that had been through several different cad packages before going into MasterCam. Sometimes you have to Band-Aid em to make them machineable.

Bob
