dxf files

when I select a Mastercam part file and add a tool with the tool manager, everything works fine. if i open a dxf file and add the same tool i get an error back indicating the tool was not added. this is all done within my chook.

any idea?

Did you select machine definition like MILLDefault,or Lathe?

i have mill 3-axis vmc as the default machine def. how come this was not used when i open a dxf file? when i open mcx part file it always uses the default machine def.

 

and what function do i use to select the machine def?

when i open a dxf file, lookslike the machine def goes away, doesnot happen when i open a mcx file, why does this happen?

just to clarify, when i start up mastercam x, i do get the default machine (mill 3-axis vmc). i run my chook and open a dxf file and the machine group goes away. i put a "exit chook" right after the dofileopen and there's no machine group. this doesnot happen when i open a mcx file.
