Matsuura MX-520 5th axis machine

Evening everyone

 

We're looking into getting a few new machines and one of the horses in the race is a Matsuura MX-520 5 axis. Anyone out there got any experience they care to share, such as pros and cons or any other info.

 

Also looking at Makinos also.

I've got quite a bit of experience with them. A member here (Oscar) has one.

 

Pro's... It's a Matsuura. It's got a FANUC control. CAMplete comes with it. Price.

 

What specifically would you like to know about it?

Was wondering about the user interface, rigidity, reliability, that sort of stuff. i don't know if you do or not but if you owned your own shop, would you buy one?

We don't have alot of guys with CNC experience and ease of learning the machines is a concern for some of them.

Well, the machine is a Matsuura so quality, etc... are at the top of the spectrum.

 

User Interface, well, the machine comes with a FANUC 31i Control with FANUC's Manual Guide i interface which is a more graphical interface.

 

All Matsuuras come with MIMS (used to be called Handy-Man). It is where you have your machine recovery screens, maintenance intervals, High Speed Machining, adjustments, etc... For companies new to 5-Axis, usually 1- 2 days training for the operators gets them proficient. Programmers... if they are new to 5-axis, this could take up to a week or longer because the machine comes with CAMplete which is a Post Processor, Simulation and Collision Detection software so there is that component.

I've been on one of these for 4 months now.

Bulletproof - clearly the smoothest (20K) spindle I've even run.

We have the Renishaw tool laser measurement and probe - this bad boy holds microns day in and out.

Couldn't be happier
