Need Help!!! unfriendly tool patterns

Recommended Posts

Hello everybody,

I am fairly new at using master cam and I am having a hard time creating tool paths that want to resolve.

Question #1:

I designed my solid body in solid works and saved it as a parasolid, then opened it in master cam. After trying to make either a contour or a pocket tool path, I get the error, 'Warning - the boundry does not lie in the construction plane' what does this mean? Also, mastercam does not let me select the edges of a solid body in order to make a contour tool path; I used Create-Curve on all edges, in order to make a wireframe, however, when I try to make toolpaths using the wirefram instead of the solid, I receive the same error.

Querstion #2:

I beleive that if I start from scratch and make a sketch of the contours I want, I'll be able to create toolpaths, however, I do not know how to create the same geometry that I did in solid works. is there a way I can take the sketch I made in solid works, and place it in a sketch on mastercam?

Thanks a bundle and let me know if these questions are unclear!

p.s. I am making a cribage board and i will be using a mill to cut out the holes as well as some designs. my master cam file is attatched if anyone would like to take a look,

When I create a model in solid works then own in Mastercam, the first thing I do is create a stock including a bounding box, if necessary, then I create the wcs's I will need to machine the part. For some reason when I create a model in solid works, it opens in Mastercam all funky. So try creating your wcs's before hand and make sure the tool plane is equal to your newly created wcs. I hope this helps!
