Chamfering cross holes - lathe parts?

Recommended Posts

Hi, just got mastercam x9, and i am trying to deburr a cross hole using a double sided 90deg chamfer tool. Sort of like a spherical debur tool, but instead of round, its 90 deg angles(if that makes any sense).

Using the 3d chamfer option is as easy as 123 on the outer surface, but trying to debur the inner surface is not so easy.

What I am trying to so is debur a cross hole on a lathe with live tooling, the hole goes thru the OD of the part and breaks into the ID of the part. I am trying to debur both these edges where it breaks into both ID and OD.

I drew up a custom tool that is like what I am using, but I am having a hard time getting mastercam to give me accurate output on the inside debur path.

Using a lolipop gives an error about incorrect tool type when trying to select the 3D Chamfer option. I guess I could manipulate the chain geometry size, and adjust the cut depth etc, until the verify looks good.

I was really hoping for a easy, select 3D chamfer, give it a size, and it does it. I guess Mastarcam lathe has not progressed as much as Mill has in features.

Sorry, I did not use the 3D Chamfer toolpath.  I should have added, I used a 3D Contour with comp in the computer and just tweaked the stock to leave and the incremental depth.  That only took a few minutes trial & error. In this example, I used a .500 diameter tool, an incremental depth of -.375 below the inner wall of the part and a -.040 stock allowance to make the cut.
