  1. Hello guys,
I frequently use toolpath nesting with 100 to 200 different references, and to easily identify each part reference, I use the "Use part name as label" function. However, this function also includes the extension (.mcam) and other text, as shown in the attached image.

In the image, you can see that I have manually edited the label to remove the extra text, so it only shows the part name like the blue label. I would like to ask if there is a parameter or another way to automatically achieve this result.

I have attached an image to illustrate the issue.

Thank you in advance for your help!

  2. Hello Mastercam community,

I'm facing an issue with my 5-axis program in Mastercam, and it's a bit of a puzzle. There's an operation where my machine performs an unnecessary 180° rotation in the C-axis, and it's not consistent.

To provide more context, here's what's been happening:

This isn't the first time; it's been an ongoing issue. Sometimes it occurs, and other times it doesn't. It's a bit frustrating.

I've experimented with different solutions. For instance, I've tried changing the rotation vector by a few degrees, and in some cases, it seems to fix the problem. However, there are moments when this solution doesn't work, and the issue persists.

What's most perplexing is that even with the same input, the outcome varies. Sometimes it works perfectly, and sometimes it doesn't. I primarily use curve operations for this.

I've double-checked my settings, but I can't seem to pinpoint a consistent cause. If anyone has faced a similar situation or has insights into what might be causing this, I'd really appreciate your input. It's a bit of a mystery, and I'm eager to resolve it.

Thank you in advance for your help and suggestions. I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences.

To provide more details, here's the G-code for the operation

You just got to prove the return on investment.

Ex. if I spend 3 hours a week typing tools into a tool sheet and getting X+ or something similar can bring that 3 hrs to 5 minutes... how many weeks before the product pays for itself and from then on it's saving money at no cost.

You're right about the return on investment. I actually tried something similar in the past. I proposed a 5-axis operation that would have saved a significant amount of time, and I provided data to prove it. However, they decided to stick with the old method, reasoning that two people were sufficient. It's sometimes challenging to convince decision-makers, even when the potential time and cost savings are clear.

  4. Hi everyone,

I hope you're all doing well. I have a question  that I thought this community might be able to help with. I work as a CNC programmer and use Mastercam for my projects. After I've completed my programming, I usually fill out an Excel file with tool part numbers, references, revisions, dates, and part images.

Recently, I came across the concept of setup sheets in Mastercam, and I realized that they can do something similar to my Excel file. I'm wondering if there's a way to customize my setup sheet by integrating my Excel data directly into it. This would save me a lot of time and effort.

Has anyone tried doing something similar, or does anyone have any insights into how I might go about it? Any tips, guidance, or resources would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help!

  5. Thank you for the suggestion! I do use the File-Merge method as well, but I'm dealing with parts that have the same dimensions but numerous intricate details, such as varying hole forms and other complex features. This makes the process quite time-consuming. I was hoping to find a more advanced method or tool that could help streamline the comparison for such detailed parts.
