  1. Thanks for all of the input folks.......

We are about to replace the current workstations, but are struggling to pinpoint the final spec.

    Which would be the best:

Intel Xeon E5-1620v3 3.5Ghz processor or An i7 Processor?........If i understand correctly the i7 would be more benefit due to the fast that it is a faster processor, and that while a Xeon has more cores, they would not all be utilized.

We are definitely going to pitch for an Nvidia Quadro graphics card, which will straight away help with our crashing issue. However budget wise we are thinking the K2200 over the K4200 as there is a £400 difference.

On occasion we are programming with 0.001" tolerances and taking 0.004" to 0.001" depths of cuts on fairly large files, do you think the K2200 would meet our requirements?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Cheers,

  2. Hi,

We too are experiencing extremely regular crash problems. This is 4 workstations all running X8.

Often when they are idle, they are still showing 25%CPU usage on the task manager. This goes up to 90-95% when programming, especially rest roughing programs.

Crashing regularly occurs during verify, even with very small file sizes. But mainly when programming 3D form (working on aluminium mould tools).

    The Workstation Specs are:

    Dell Optiplex 7010

    Intel i5 - [email protected]

    16GB ram

    Win 7 64bit

    AMD Radeon HD 7470

Initial trouble shooting has confirmed graphics cards are at latest drivers and some log me in software running on a couple of teh workstations has been disabled(but the problem existing on those without too).

We've run the benchmarking test found elsewhere in the forum and had that running at 5.5 minutes(verified by stopwatch), which i think was ok by what others have been achieving.

    Any ideas?

While the graphics card is not an Nvidia Quadro.......Our computer support company believe that it is suitable for the job.

    Cheers,

    Ste
