  1. We've got 2 SolidBox Carbide machines here.

They were not cheap, but they are rock solid, run Mastercam X5 with issues and are very fast..

When I'm spending my money I buy Dell refurb worekstations.

SolidBox Carbide Machine at over 6 grand is a little too much for us but the high speed series looks more around our range...So you are saying to start fresh from scrach on the installation to avoid problems?

  2. Hello All!

My boss has finally agreed to up-date our very old computers and I got a fresh maintenance up grade of X5 to install.

    My questions are.

    1. - Can anyone suggest the best computer configuration for the best performance of X5 and Solidworks without breaking the bank?

    2. - How do I migrate my files to the brand new computer e.g. Machine configuration, post processor, tool bar states etc.

Thank you and have a nice day!

  3. Once again thank you all for the outstanding info and replies.

After all this talk and careful calculations on our budget they decided to go the cheapest route with a HASS VF-6TR.the HASS rep. is coming by tomorrow to discuss some detail before we commit to it. With a Mastercam license Mastercam X Mill Level 3, Mastercam X Solids, and Mastercam X Five Axis. My biggest worry now is some good verification software and the post.

  4. Matt, Hermle seems like a really well made machine

Unfortunately the dealer would not give me a ball park number unless a married her JK.

In a ball park number how much would you say a

    C 42 U dynamic run?

Can you get continous output from all axis simultaneously or only indexed output from some of the axis?

Nick, I was only trying to disclose my experience with VMCs and HMCs and didn't mean to rev up my horses at you. Your point is very good as we are trying to produce small to medium size prototype parts that require simultaneous 5-axis movement.

I think I have had some what of a range of VMC and HMV up to 4-Axis mill and lathes experience. I understand the difference between Ferrari and a corolla. My problem is our budget and the learning curve associated with 5-axis Machining while not loosing my job as the will expect immediate results if they make any type of capital investment big or small.

  7. Thank you all for your kind remarks. In the end it is true as the saying goes, "you get what you pay for" and I'm going to have to convince these people that cheaper is not better and more expensive won't solve all their problems either.

As with any major purchase you'll have to look at several options and I think I'll look at Hass next.

    Thanks again.

  8. Hi all,

My company is looking to get in to the 5-axis game with a GANESH 5X-300(VMC-4020). At $149,000. We though it is reasonably priced.

This machine has a table-table 5-axis attachment with option for a ***or or Fanuc control. Personally I have never run a GANESH machine or a 5-axis either but I seem to think that a head-head 5-axis is a better option.

Can anybody please comment on the GANESH Mill or the option of a table-table vs. head-head 5-axis.

  9. Hello all,

We have Mastercam X2 MR2 I'm running a very simple surface finish parallel with machining angle at 90 deg., step over .005, 1/2 ball em. to generate a 5" rad. on a surface.

My problem is that I cannot seem to be able to apply a filter to this toolpath to generate arcs on yz plane.

    Can any one help?
